It must be in the air. I slept in this morning, which is a rarity. Thought I had five more minutes of snoozing, but when I awakened, I'd taken 45. So, that got me off to a tardy start. Just got off the phone from talking to my brother Kevin for 45 minutes, so Slight Detour definitely went into action this morning.
And since it did, I'll stick to tidbits because my mind wants to focus on all the stuff I've got to do today rather than one single topic. So, here's what's hatching today:
Willie and Debbie spent the night in Hermiston, Ore., last night with their U-Haul and car hitched on behind. They called about 6 p.m. and said they'd be heading on to their new home in Spokane whenever they awakened this morning. They may or may not come to Sandpoint after dropping off their possessions in the apartment garage. If the manager says the apartment is ready for them to move in, we won't be seeing them.
Gotta work on a couple of stories today. One involves coming up with Q & A questions for the new but old president of the Appaloosa Horse Club. He was elected last week for his third consecutive term. So, that means the questions I had prepared for a "new" president have to change to some better suited for an experienced president.
I'm also hoping for the opportunity to interview actress Patty Duke. In preparation for this, I'm reading her two books. Call Me Anna, which she wrote in the 1980s has been fascinating and fun. She has started her own blog, dealing with mental illness, so that's probably what I'll focus on if I land the interview. She seems like a very nice, down-to-earth person in spite of all she's gone through in her early life.
Also, today I must extend thanks to Ponderay Police Chief Mike Hutter, who promised me yesterday he'd look into getting some DEEP potholes at the corner of Sand Creek Cut-off Road and HWY 95 at least filled. He told me that when the highway construction occurs that problem, which has certainly eaten up and partially destroyed many a car frame for the past year or so, will be addressed.
He also told me it's illegal to use that third lane on the right but that his police force usually ignores the infractions. I told him that it's pretty impossible to make a right turn in the middle lane when the illegal lane is filled with other cars blocking the turn. He agreed it was a problem and said he'd see what he could do to eliminate the pothole traps. Thanks, Mike! My car will appreciate you forever, as I'm sure many others will.
Lots of outside stuff to do today as there always is when you have more than an acre of lawn. So, I'd better wrap up this later-than-usual blog and get at it.
Have a nice day.
