James Madison Alden painted this water color of Lake Pend Oreille in 1859-60 while serving as artist for the American party of the International Boundary Commission. The group surveyed the 49th Parallel from the Pacific Ocean to the Rocky Mountains during the period of 1857-1862. See posting below.
