Next week is graduation. We get to bring friends---human, that is. We're going to have a ceremony, and the doggies will all demonstrate what they've learned over the past four weeks at Green Meadow Kennels. In a nutshell, they've learned that doggie school can be fun. Doggie school involves a whole lot more than just sit, stay, lie down, wait, stay and come.
Doggie school also includes socialization, kinda like kindergarten. Mommy or Daddy takes you there. There's a teacher. There are a bunch of other kids who have proud mommies and daddies too. You're scared. You have to pay attention to the teacher and you have to do what your mommy or daddy tells you to do. If you're good, you get something to eat. If you're really good, you get to eat a lot, not just your mommy's shoes.
After you're done learning all that obedience stuff and practicing what you've learned, you get to play. It takes a while to decide that you really want to play with all these other kids who don't look at all like you. So, you stick to Mommy's side. It doesn't take long though because they're all kinda nice, even though they play a little rough. Once you get into it, though, you can make up your own games where you can play the winner, the loser or just the skeptical observer.
You hear a lot of laughing at doggie school as mommies and daddies just can't get over how funny you can be while rolling around, jumping around and racing around with your new friends. You play so hard and run so fast that when socialization ends, you sure do like to just lie down and take a breather.
It's a fun thing to go to and when you get your diploma, you might just feel like whining cuz you won't get to see your friends again. Doggie school is the best.

Good morning! I am a daily reader whom you haven't met yet...hopefully we will in Yoke's someday or something! I just wanted to ask if you would comment on Connie's closing. I'm rather distressed about that. Thanks!
That's a good idea. I'll reach into my bag of Connie's history and come up with something.
For starters: almost getting kicked out while laughing too loudly with Patricia McManus Gass
Meeting the mother of one of my infant son's classmates. She had her new baby at the counter; I had Willie in the booth. Her name is Wendy Carlson; her son's name is Ryan. Both boys were in Cub Scouts together. Maybe you've heard of Dr. Carlson; that's her husband.
Meeting my friend Chris Moon for our annual debriefing of life over the past 12 months.
Laughing so hard with Mae McCormick and Jack Knaggs while telling a story of an indecent bathroom sighting, so hard that Jack Knaggs began to snort. That was a long time ago, so I don't know if he snorts anymore. He just coaches Little League.
Eating breakfast as a family and having one of my youthful kiddies flip a used spoon into a plate of hashbrowns at the next table over. I believe she was about 15 months old at the time.
FRY Day when my sisters, my friends and whoever else would be seen with us would gobble down French fries and ranch dressing and brief one more sigh of relief when a school week had ended.
Laughing so hard with Patrick McManus and Boots Reynolds that we almost got kicked out again.
Howz that for starters? See you at Yoke's before they take that away, I hope!
I was wondering. Did you have a lot of homework? Did you find a bestest furriend? Did you ever have to stand in the corner? Do you have to wear a cap and gown? Did you get any F's? (I think that stands for fun.) Just wondering.

If you're a dog at doggie school, you do have homework, but I can tell you from some real personal experience that some dogs don't do anything to practice outside of class. Instead, they spend their time chasing coffee cans, while others do regular workouts every day. It just depends on dedication. Some are more dedicated than others, and some think they're smarter than others. It's just like with kids.
So far, no students have been sent to the corner. The teacher's pretty understanding because of age differences, etc.
This is a pass-fail class, and I was told last night that if you fail, you have to stay and practice, practice, practice until you get it right.
Now, for caps and gowns, that wasn't mentioned, but I do think it would be a good idea. Do ya spose Pampered Pets would have something like that? I just don't know.
Patches, it was so good to hear from you. You're one classy kitty. Have you ever gone to cat school?
Actually, I am the teacher of the group here. However, they don't ever listen to anything I have to say, especially the little Squirt. All she wants to do is play. She doesn't seem to understand that life has serious moments, so I just give up and go take naps. Momma says she wishes life were that simple.
