Saturday Slight from Boise

MSNBC is providing continuing breaking news on the mine disaster in Utah. For the past hour, the "breaking news" has been that a second drill has reached the area where the miners might be. I don't know how many more hours this news will break, but I'm guessing it could be a while.

We have so much "breaking news" that our senses are dulled. What can be done to make us sit up and take notice when something really happens? Maybe they can come up with a new power point gimmick to flash across the screen declaring----THIS TIME SOMETHING'S REALLY HAPPENING . . . WELL, AT LEAST WE THINK IT IS. That way we can continue on with life while "breaking news" streams across the screen.

I've ironed my clothes for today's reading. Willie and Debbie will be here sometime after 10 a.m., and we'll go to the Farmer's Market. Today is their sixth anniversary, and I find it hard to believe it's been six years since they stood on the altar at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sandpoint to say their vows.

That was a crazy, memorable weekend with their wedding and Mother's 80th birthday. We did the wedding one day and the birthday party the next. I recall a bit of exhaustion at the time, but the whole weekend remains on of wonderful family memories. This year we'll do the book signing, attend a reception later and then go to dinner to celebrate their anniversary.

Early tomorrow morning, I'll fly back to Spokane, drive home and join the rest of the family to celebrate Mother's 86th. It will be a low-key affair compared to last year's milestone, but we'll take her to dinner at the Hope Hotel. Looks like great weather for the drive out to one of the more beautiful spots on earth---a great place to celebrate a great lady's special day.

Hope everyone's having a good day wherever you are. Now, I'd better get back to the "breaking news." Happy Saturday. If you're reading from Boise, come see us at Borders Books at 2 p.m. We'd love to visit with you.
