Kid stuff

I'm a typical mom, so I have to share what the kids are doing. This morning I'm leading off with my beloved daughter-in-law Debbie. Since Sunday and for the next couple of weeks, Debbie will be in Ecuador with a small group of Girl Scouts. I think there are two adults and four scouts who will be volunteering their time in schools around the country. Someone mentioned villages in the Amazon as part of the itinerary.

Debbie is a staff worker in the regional Girl Scout office in Boise, and she's been planning this trip since sometime last year. I talked briefly with her Sunday during their layover in Atlanta, preceding the flight to Quito. She was pretty excited, but she knows that with the trip comes a lot of responsibility. That's something Debbie handles masterfully.

The girls are maintaining a blog as often as possible. I stole some information from the site
http://vibejournal.com/teamecuador2008, which explains generally what they're doing.

Team Ecuador
Destination Ecuador is a program designed to promote leadership skills for young women through world service and global citizenship. The program is sponsored, developed, and delivered by Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council which serves communities throughout southern Idaho and parts of Oregon and Nevada. The participants of this program have been chosen based on their identified ability to contribute to a dynamic team with a passion to explore and change this world in which we live.

Meanwhile, Willie is home in Boise watching after our grandpuppies Todd and Brooke. In his day job, he's covering the Boise Hawks baseball team. In addition, I believe he'll get to do some interviews with the Humanitarian Hall of Fame recipients, which include Gonzaga basketball coach Mark Few. At the very least, Willie will be able to meet Coach Few next Tuesday at the induction ceremonies. I told him to be sure to let the coach know that his grandmother loves the Zags.

Annie was here this weekend, armed with her camera. She has an album of her photos, which are, as usual phenomenal. You can find it at (

Today is another big day for her because the Seattle Post-Intelligencer has once again asked for one of her photos to use in its "Getaway" section of the print paper. The online edition features her photos, often listing them as "our favorite photographer."

I think tonight is the night Annie will be attending an Ali Leedy-Ward/Travis Ward concert at the Skylark in West Seattle. If I'm not right on the date, she'll let me know. So, check back Seattlelites and go see this talented husband-wife team of musicians. They're downright wonderful people too, both homegrown Sandpoint products.

Update from Annie: Hillfolk Noir - Travis and Ali's band is playing Friday night at The Skylark in West Seattle at 8pm (if Seattle people are interested). :)

So, yes, the buttons are popping. The kids are doing great things with their lives, and Bill and I are both very proud of them.

Well, Marianne, you are now my regular coffee stop in the morning. It's amazing when people travel to other parts of the globe ... especially for humanitarian efforts.
