A Sunday afternoon at Boulder Meadows

I first saw Boulder Meadows aboard my horse Tiny back in the early 1970s. Some members of the Gold n' Grouse 4-H Club, specifically the late Dan Lund, invited me to go along for an overnight trail ride. If I recall correctly, we started and finished the ride at the McNall Shorthorn Ranch.

We spent the night camping in Boulder Meadows, which I would still rank in top five places of stunning beauty I've visited. Bill and I returned to Boulder Meadows twice last summer, once during the infamous storm the launched its fury across North Idaho one Friday evening. We were in the meadows fishing when the storm came up. We rode our bicycles through punishing rain, scary lightning bolts and high winds.

Once back to the car, we thought we were safe. That thought changed as soon as we realized we'd have to saw our way out of the Boulder Creek drainage. Eight-ten trees later we arrived at HWY 95 and learned that the storm had left its mark across a wide swath of Bonner and Boundary Counties.

Yesterday we took Annie to the meadows for her first time. I was a bit disappointed because the usual lush, dark green grass had just begun to grow. We're guessing the snow just came off the meadows, but the area was pretty enough.

Note: A couple of photos did not load on the blog, but I have to take Annie to the airport. Will post them later.

A great way to spend our day of celebrations.
