Many came to Celebrate Life

An overnight rainstorm failed to dampen the spirits of around 400 participants in yesterday's Fifth Annual Celebrate Life Walk/Run/Bike/Scoot/push across Lake Pend Oreille's walking bridge. Yes, even a scooter rider joined the ranks as did several participants in carriages and even a wheel chair or two.

The clouds went away. The sun came out, and the event brought out the best in friendly visiting and remembering the importance of celebrating one's life and the lives of those who mean or have meant so much to the participants.

Celebrate Life, inspired by Jenny Jacobson Meyer and organized by her sister Julie Jacobson Walkington, along with January Tuinstra, raises money for Sandpoint-cancer patients, their families and friends. Local nurses "in the know" determine needs and see that funds are distributed for everything from a night out at a restaurant
to gas for transport to and from treatments, to massages.
In its first four years, more than $56,000 had been raised for this cause.

Yesterday's event saw a record turnout.

Organizers encourage donations from anyone any time.
