Wood(s) and stuff

The doggies and I enjoyed a simple gift yesterday. We went for our first walk of the winter through the Meserve pastures and their lovely forest. I took some photos of my "purple" brigade as they bounded between trees, raced back to me to say hello and generally had a good time with their noses to the ground or their eyes pointed upward in search of squirrels. Unfortunately, my most of my purple brigade photos were too blurry to print.

I viewed the experience as one of the wondrous, simple gifts of life, and I told Geneva so. Stan and Geneva are so gracious to allow me and my family the freedom to roam their place and enjoy all its beauty. But then Stan and Geneva are gracious about everything, and having them as neighbors is definitely a gift I cherish.

I was amazed at how low the water was in the pond and how much more of the stump patch from the old Humbird Lumber Co. days I could see as opposed to last winter when only their tops were visible. There's beauty to a stump, and yesterday I thought the stump patch cut quite a picturesque scene.

The purple brigade is barely visible in one of the photos as they paraded their way into the forest. Actually, Kea refuses to be part of the brigade. I bought her a purple doggie blanket to match her buddies, but she took it off three times the first night. With a deep freeze coming next week, I'm going to have to have a talk with Kea about staying warm and how much doggie blankets can help.

Kea does what Kea wants to do, though, so I'm not holding much hope for success in persuading her to wear her blanket. Kiwi and Annie Dog, on the other hand, are quite proud of theirs.

Back to the "wood(s). The house I featured last week, belonging to Dan and Terri Wood is in place, and work is occurring to provide it the necessary accessories for becoming a full-fledged working home. I think they're doing stuff with plumbing, etc. I have a feeling they're wasting no time getting it ready for occupancy soon.

Finally, I figured all wood aficionados would appreciate the "Stan" wood up above. I came upon this scene while walking through the north end of the forest, and I figured any wood gatherer would be impressed.

All in all, yesterday's walk provided a nice break from a day of working on story assignments at the computer, and I think the dogs had a good time too.

Thank you, Stan and Geneva, for the much appreciated gift of sharing your piece of nature with your neighbor.

"There's beauty to a stump, and yesterday I thought the stump patch cut quite a picturesque scene." I agree about the beauty, but there is a sadness to such stumps that are covered with water half the year. Something about their being cut off and left to die. Oops! Here comes morose! I'll give him 90 seconds, and then on to more joy of the day!
