A big weekend is coming up in Sandpoint. I'm wondering how long it's gonna take for all those people headed this way to get across that Long Bridge. The Festival at Sandpoint begins tonight at Memorial Field and runs through the weekend, resuming again next weekend.
The Pend Oreille Arts Council annual Arts and Crafts fair will be running over the weekend at City Beach. They've been doing that for 37 years now. Hard to believe!
On Friday and Saturday there's a play at the Panida, called Postcards and inspired by actor Viggo Mortensen's art work.
The Celebrate Life Walk/Run across the Long Bridge is this Saturday morning. The event, inspired by everyone's dear friend, the late Jenny Jacobson Meyer, raises money to help cancer patients and their families. Plus, it fulfills its name: celebrating life.
Jenny's sister Julie Walkington and her friend January Tunistra have kept this wonderful event going. Countless of local families have benefitted from its earnings in a myriad of helpful ways.
More information about civic events on the huge plate of community offerings can be found at www.sandpointonline.com
Other smaller happenings, reflecting a variety of emotions, are on the agenda also. I know of a memorial at Schweitzer honoring the memory of a young man who was my son's classmate and my friend's son. There's a wedding this Saturday uniting two families I've known my entire life---the Albertsons and the McNalls.
Tomorrow I'll be attending a celebration of life for my principal, boss and friend, Dick Sodorff. I'm sure the service in the auditorium of the old junior high will bring out hundreds of familiar faces and old friends.
After the service, I'll be hurrying home to continue my project of getting ready for the main weekend event here at the Lovestead. Cousins on the Brown side of the family---just the first cousins, plus one spouse---will drive up to Sandpoint for the day, and if they can get through the maze of local happenings, Bill and I will be greeting them here in Selle.
The rest of the day with this bunch remains unplanned except for the grand finale at Second Avenue Pizza where I made sure Carolyn put us on the docket for the evening pizza feed.
This is the first time I've had so many of my own ilk among family visit Sandpoint and our home. We've had smatterings here and there throughout the years, but to have all those first cousins in one setting will probably be an experience I'll never forget. Plus, with all the chitchat, maybe we can inspire a noise ordinance from the neighbors.
I'd say this is the biggest weekend of the year here in Sandpoint. I hope it goes off for everyone without a hitch. Now, I'd better get busy, since I do solo as a "Merry Maid," and there's lots to do, lots to do and so little time.
Happy Thursday to all.
