Messages of fall

My watering program is now down to every other day.

Yesterday while spraying away at still yielding bean bushes, I caught a glimpse of red out of the corner of my eye.

This big ol' tomato had gone fully ripe without my notice. It was partially hidden behind the woven wire support.

My joy at discovering this lovely specimen was supreme.

"YES!" I announced to doggies, bees and anyone else within earshot.

This was the 'mater I'd been looking for all summer.

It's got a whole lot of friends on the verge of exploding with a new tint of tomato red.

When the 'maters come on like this, we know something else is definitely on the verge: that's fall.

The signs are appearing all over the Lovestead.

As much as I hate the thought that all too soon every colorless vestige of this beauty will soon be hauled off to a pile behind the barn, I am lapping up every subtle change of the season, even the gradual collapse of Big Blue.

There's no stopping it, so we must enjoy!
