Monday Morning After . . .

Elaine Pierson aboard He's Impulsive aka Rebel

The pair won this year's "Harold Tibbs -- Toby I" memorial belt buckle for Most Versatile Horse in the show.

Congrats to Elaine. We're proud of you and for you.

Another Spots of Fun Horse Show has ended.

As usual, it was a fun weekend event at the Bonner County Fairgrounds.  Many thanks to Moreen Leen and her crew  for the tireless work they always do to make the show happen each year.

Family-wise, my sister Barbara had a great show with her Dusty.  They won a few first places and placed in every class they entered.  A great start for a 3-year-old.

The show probably signaled the end to Miss Lily's horse show career.  She aptly demonstrated early on in yesterday's classes that she does not like to perform correctly at THE SHOW.

I had a cow like Lily once.  Oddly enough her name rhymes with Lily.

Dear ol' Millie was an impressive, high-quality horned Hereford matriarch.

Millie always served as the barnyard practice cow for all the 4-H'ers cuz she (like Lily) knew her stuff when it came to being shown.  She'd put those four feet exactly where they belonged, most times without a show stick.

She was gentle and cooperative----AT HOME, just like Lily.

But when Millie went into a show ring for fitting and showing, without her calf at her side, her good behavior lasted almost a minute.  Each time for three years in a row, I thought this would be the time that Millie would behave.

It never happened.  Usually within 90 seconds, after she had taken off and dragged me around the arena (1,500 pounds' worth---of Millie, that is), the judge would point my way and then point at the arena fence where I was instructed to tie her up until the class ended.

The one thing I can say about these events was that Millie and I were consistent---always the bottom white in 4-H fitting and showing.

And, Lily has been consistent for three years running with Laurie, only yesterday she reared instead of bucked.  Laurie did not wait for the judge to excuse her from the arena at approximately 90 seconds into the second class.

You can't tie horses to the fence; therein lies about the only difference between the Millie/Lily showring results.

By the way, I still love my horse, just as I did my cow.
