A real summer day. . . finally

I guess we'd have to call it official:  summer has finally arrived here.  We had a few false alarms, but this morning seems like the real thing.  No clouds.  A big nippy but much warmer than the past several days.  And, a promise of the 90s by week's end.

Along with summer comes company, and we've got some guests.  Mike and Mary have set up their travel trailer next to the house for the next few days.  Many of Mary's relatives are here, staying at the lake cabin, and there's the possibility that some of the younger boys may come to the Lovestead with their grandparents sometime this week.

The hot weather will come just in time for this weekend's Spots of Fun horse show, and where will I be?  I'll be sitting up high by myself in bee heaven.  That would be both Saturday and Sunday all day as I announce the classes at the annual show.  Barbara and Laurie will be showing horses, and Laurie tells me she has Lily signed up for five classes.

We figure Laurie may be able to get all the buck out of Lily and maybe stand a chance of winning a ribbon or two.  Barbara will be showing her 3-year-old Dusty who's getting off to a phenomenal start.  So far, Dusty hasn't pulled any "Lily's" in the show ring.  He reserves what bucking he's gonna do for the practice days.

My 3-year-old Arabian mare Heather will be going to the trainer this week, and a former Olympian at that.  Roxane Conrad, down on Forest Siding Road, will be taking Heather for a month.  The goal with Heather is mainly for Roxane to get on her and ride her.  She knows her basics, but I'm figuring a horse trainer can be the one to see how much buck she's got.  Hopefully not too much.

Maybe today, maybe tomorrow, I'll start running water into Big Blue.  It will be nice to have the pool ready for the heat.  Maybe this week some of my sickly looking garden veggies will get a boost and will get on their way to growing.

Lots happening, so my posts this week may be fairly short.  For now, I'm outa here to go enjoy summer.  Who knows; it may not hang around for very long.

Happy Tuesday.  And, one more thing:  congrats to my daughter-in-law Debbie who pedaled 68 miles yesterday on her road bike----from Sandpoint to Bonners Ferry and back.  In two weeks, she'll be doing that Seattle to Portland trip, so she'll be putting in lots of miles over the next several days.
