Seeing green in January might be a figment of our imagination or a picture stored away among the multitude. Every once in a while, though, it's kinda fun to take trips back and to think about all that has happened since those photos were snapped.
In this case, it's summer 2006. We have just moved to the Lovestead, and this is the fence that kept my old buddies Rambo and Casey from running down South Center Valley Road.
Prior to our move here, the wire and posts had served as a 4-foot high electrified goat fence. I was able to bring the top wire up a few inches, and miraculously those two boys stayed inside for six months.
In January of 2006, tracks in the snow around the barnyard led us to believe that one of the horses had escaped and that some neighbors (one bigfoot and one smallfoot) had put it back where it belonged.
So, we spent about a thousand dollars, purchasing boards and nailed up a fence right in the middle of the winter. Winter that year wasn't too bad, so we were able to finish the project.
A month or so later, we learned that the horse tracks indicating an escapee did not belong to our horses.
A month or so later, we learned that the horse tracks indicating an escapee did not belong to our horses.
A neighbor's horse had gotten loose and came to visit. Still, we were glad to have a more substantial fence around the barnyard. And, building the fence actually turned out to be a fun project for January.
Since then, both the fence and the horses have changed. Rambo and Casey lie forever down in the far pasture. In their place are Lily, Heather and Lefty.
And, nowadays, in January, I worry about how much of the board fence will be devoured before spring.

It's one of those mornings, and I've finally learned that when such mornings come along-----give up the fight. The best-laid plans of the blog are not in the cards, so let it go.
That's what I'll be doing. I had a fun idea which included several photos, but the blogger gods are not cooperating. Must be all that snow, which is falling at a rate of an inch per hour, is getting to them.
And, since it is falling that fast, I know there's work outside.
By the way, the weather forecast for real winter during the Winter Carnival has changed dramatically in the past day-----less snow than predicted and a whole lot more rain and warm.
Hate to think of the mess we have to look forward to this weekend. Let's pray for moderation.
Happy Wednesday, and do check the photo below cuz it goes with the photo above. There was more, but that will come another day.

Gotcha, Helen. I'll get that fixed.
My subconscious was trying to tell me to check that, but I didn't listen.
