Sunday-Morning Stuff

I think I'm going to like my new lens.
Caught this shot yesterday when Mr. or Mrs. Pine Squirrel discovered a new supply of peanuts on the loft of my bird feeder stand.
Later in the afternoon, every peanut was gone.
So, there's a new supply this morning.
As long as we don't have snow, I'm figuring our visitor will keep coming back for more.
The bird-feeder set-up and the new lens are helpful aids for long winter days.
Yesterday turned into a long winter day because the expected sun never showed up.
In its place was more than desired gray along with cold piercing to the bones.
Gonzaga lost and so did Willie's JV's, adding further blah to the day.
In the morning, John Fuller came to remove shoes from horses.
As usual, we enjoyed some good jawing.
Before leaving, John said he would be going to the library soon to arrange for flights to Mexico in January.
He and his wife Vicki have already spent a month there this fall.
They always leave after Christmas and generally return in March.
I think they and many other friends have the right idea for avoiding winter blahs.
It's just not that easy for all of us, however, with animals.
Nevertheless, days like yesterday set the mind in gear, and visions of places in the sun and warmth dash through one's mind:  Maui, Texas or that long-awaited bucket list place called Savannah.  Maybe New Orleans would be fun this time of year.
Yup, the mental film reels keep rolling, and dreaming of these places helps.
Thank God for squirrels, birds and happy dogs.
They do make a big difference when seasonal monotony sets in.
Today I think the sun will shine.  Whenever it decides to show up, the dreaming of far away places gets tabled for a while.
So, here's to an unblah, sunny Sunday, and I wish the same to everyone else.
And, below is a picture of our adorable Miss Kea, resident "patrol dog."
