SUNday: We Pray . . . .

Gosh, it would be nice if this day could live up to its name.  Although slightly improved from yesterday's continued cold, wet and windy misery, those abundant gray clouds and somewhat chilly wind still rule the morning.

Yesterday Sandpoint High had a wet graduation.  People bundled up in their winter clothes and tried to stay dry during the outdoor ceremony.

Bad weather, however, could not dampen the spirits of another graduating class.  After all, they just had to survive the ceremony and then head to the fairgrounds for fun-filled activities at their Grad Nite.

I know of at least one senior who's spending today packing up his earthly possessions and moving to Florida.

That's one aspect of graduation that never changes.  Grads walk out of the gathering, and, in some cases, never see each other again.

Even almost 50 years later, a few faces in my yearbook remain intact in my mind:  no gray hair, no extra pounds, no hearing aides----forever young because I haven't seen them since we left our gym in 1965.

I think of yesterday's story on my blog of the couple who fell in love at Farragut during the WWII.

Betty and Karl maintained their youth in each other's minds for decades.  Karl, who probably has passed away,  remained a tucked-away story until Betty chose to share it with her daughter on Friday.

I wonder what similar stories will evolve in the journeys of this year's seniors.  Ahh, the memories!

On this day after yesterday's rainy graduation and rainy free fishing day in Idaho and rainy geocaching event, we're all hoping the sun will come out.

The prognosticators told us it would.  And, so did Billie.

Billie Gerke, the editor of Sandpoint Magazine, worked really hard drumming up donors for last weekend's CHaFE-150 cycle ride from Sandpoint to Troy and back to Sandpoint again via the Bull River Highway.

This year Billie took on the challenge of riding the full course as opposed to half the distance in past years.  She also set a goal of raising $5,000, which goes to the Panhandle Alliance for Education, a nonprofit which supports local educational programs.

Well, she completed the ride and had generous donations, so she has come up with a nice way to thank her donors.  That would be Billie's Beer and Brats (BBB).

She's been brewing her own brand of beer and has picked up a supply of brats to be prepared Wisconsin-style (Billie has Wisconsin roots, including her college education).

The BBB (so coined by me)  is set for this afternoon at 4.  Billie is one of our neighbors, so the gathering will be fun for that reason too.  She says the weather is supposed to be nice for her gathering.

We're hoping she's right.

In the meantime, I'm also praying for some SUN on Sunday because of so much outdoor stuff that has gone unattended during the past several wintry days.

Finally, I want SUN today because our dryer died.  The weather of the past few days has certainly not offered the option of drying clothes "the old-fashioned way," by hanging them outside.

We're supposed to get our new dryer late Tuesday, so it would be nice if Mother Nature would smile upon the Lovestead and give us a few dry days.  Wind will be fine, cuz the clothes should dry sooner.

It's not a lot to ask, but I'm sure hoping those gray clouds will find someplace else (like New Mexico) to drop some rain.  And, it would be nice to thaw out again at least a few days before the official start of summer.

Happy SUNday.  If you're dealing with a little more than you need, send it this way.

Thank you.
