Funday Sunday

Bill, Jim, Barbara, Mother, Laurie and Foster--and, of course, the Colonel.

Brother Jim, the hang gliding man

Our mother had a nice birthday yesterday.  Folks at The Bridge helped her celebrate throughout the day.  Family members from afar sent greetings and gifts.

Later in the day, we took her to a beautiful spot at Dover Bay.  None of us had ever spent much time there in the summer as most of our visits have been winter photographic outings.

We love it in the winter, and there are no superlatives to adequately describe its summer beauty.  "Serene" could be a starter.

The party involved a sumptuous meal, compliments of the Colonel and the Yoke's Bakery.  After all, it was a horse show day, so not much time was available for home cooking.

That's Barbara and her friend Mary Ann in the bottom photo.  Barbara rode her Dusty in a few classes at the show, and I just had to include the picture cuz of that beautiful shirt she's wearing.

Meanwhile, at the party, three dogs, four of Mother's kids and a son-in-law helped with celebration.  Mother was overflowing with "thank you's" throughout.

One of her gifts came from Laurie's collection of winnings at her Saturday dressage show.  That stain-glassed horse has the same markings as Laurie's horse Mani.

After the eating and the "Happy Birthday" song, some of the partiers---canine and human---went for a stroll around the park.

During their absence, Mother and I enjoyed a visit with former and forever Dover City Council member Maggie Becker and her hubby Don.  They were out on their evening golf-cart trip through the Dover Bay development.

It was fun doing a little catch-up with Maggie.

They went on their way.  Dogs and their friends returned.  We packed up and headed home, all of us thrilled that Mother could enjoy yet another milestone in her remarkable life.

Twas a very good day, indeed.

Saw the hay bag and thought since you all travel to a lot of shows, I would plug my sister's business. They make what they call a Munchie Manger, Munchies are approx. 26" X 18" and will hold a flake of hay. They retail for $33.95. Basket woven for access. They cater to the mini's but they can custom make things for larger horses too.
