Saturday Slight

In Morocco, they ride camels.  That's what Annie and her Groundspeak colleague Moun10bike did earlier this week.

No injuries.  No Olympic medals, but a victorious gesture honoring the Seattle Sounders soccer team.  Annie has taken that scarf around the world.

Meanwhile, in Spokane today, fresh off from six weeks of healing a broken ankle, my sister Laurie will ride her magnificent horse Manny in a dressage show.

Even though Annie assures us from her Moroccan experience that horses are more comfortable than camels,   Laurie may not feel her usual comfort zone today.

After all, she was just released to walk without crutches and her therapeutic boot just two days ago.

She has healed, but her ankle is still weak, and her dressage horse will coming off from six weeks of not being ridden.

Nonetheless, Laurie hopes to rebuild her confidence while riding three dressage tests today.

Yesterday one of her other horses, Scout,  came up with a very painful injury---a bowed tendon.

Consequently, our other sister Barbara will stay home and give Laurie's young horse his twice-daily treatments, while I go along to the show to help Laurie with whatever she needs.

While we're at the dressage show, our brother Jim will fly in to Spokane to spend a few days with our mother who turns 91 tomorrow.  He'll meet us and come home with us.

We're all hoping to show our mother a very happy birthday and maybe even take her to a horse show tomorrow at the Bonner County Fairgrounds.

It will be a busy family-oriented weekend with everyone doing whatever they can to help other family members enjoy some good times.

I'll probably be in Spokane with Laurie and Manny by the time this posting appears.

Regretfully, I will not be participating in the Celebrate Life walk/fun run as planned but will be thinking of all the wonderful people who make the trip across the bridge and back.

I talked with one of the Celebrate Life helpers, Carrie Jacobson,  last evening, and she said the pre-registration for today's event looks really good.

We both agreed that this weekend has a full plate and a second helping of activities for the Sandpoint area.

Hard to do it all, but Carrie was very understanding that family comes first.

In this case, I'm hoping a sister who's had more than her share of bad luck this summer has a wonderful, successful day as she goes back to doing and celebrating what she loves best.

Good luck, Laurie, and a happy Saturday to all.
