Colorado Jeeping Done Well

When this 11,000-foot alpine lake is the destination, a little bouncing around in a $40,000 rental jeep is worth every boulder along the way.  My adventure yesterday turned out much safer and exhilarating than I ever dreamed.  My driver Chris, who rented the jeep, took great care every inch of the way.  And, almost every inch of the way on our bumpy roads above Empire, Colorado was breath-takingly beautiful.  Bill Moore Lake, up at the top, served as a memorable scenic finale for a day filled with fun.

Of course, geocaching is what brought all these folks to Colorado, so geocaches along the roads, provided opportunities for searching, snapping pictures and visiting.  This was the first geocaching stop before we ascended the "chutes," which was the most difficult terrain encountered throughout the day.  I think there might be a few Idaho mountain roads which could be just as challenging.

We don't see many trees that look like this in North Idaho, and, of course, this one provided a rather artistic framing for the pickup in the background.

One of the many vistas we enjoyed along the way.

Lunch stop in a lovely open meadow on the top of one of the many Rocky Mountains we saw yesterday.  Nearly 40 rigs went along on our trip.

Enjoying the beauty.

Our jeep, carried the geocaching flag, and its capable driver Chris took us up and down with no incidents but an infinite list of wonderful images and moments to remember.
