Just Wednesday Stuff

Twas one of the many gatherings of the herd, and it was kinda pretty in the summer evening light, so I'm glad I caught the dogs and their coffee cans.

Lily was unimpressed, especially because her tummy was full from a day of grazing in Pasture No. 1.  Lefty was standing back behind Lily, wishing he could have spent a day of grazing in Pasture No. 1.

He had to settle for a couple of hours in the morning and a couple later in the afternoon.  And, even that amount of meal time may be reduced if those globs starting to form up around his tail get any bigger.

If only Lily and Lefty could exchange some of their metabolism.

Anyway, last night was another lovely time to be outside, and I enjoyed taking some time to get introduced to my blooming daisies.

I planted them last year, but they apparently take two years to bloom.  Well worth the wait, I'd say.  They add a delightful splash of color to my garden, as do the mini and standard-sized rose bushes.

Looks like a good year for roses.  The bush my sisters gave me several years ago when we were at the old place has made a full transition, and it's huge this year.  Blossoms are bursting out plenty of color as are those from the ever-growing, ever-spreading wild rose in the front yard.

Annie gave me a rose bush for Mother's Day, and Bill gave me a tea rose a few days later.  Both have already exploded with beautiful blooms and some nice fragrance too.

Yesterday---of course, the day before the temp went down by ten degrees, I transplanted my cucumbers.  They seem to have survived the night okay, and their extra protection of old hay will probably save them from any cold nights during this early part of summer.

I told Bill last night as he was eating his salad that we'd be saving about $6 a week now, thanks to the garden.  All the salad fixin's----and they're a heckuva lot tastier than store bought----came from the garden.

Oh, I did throw in a few cashews, but other than that, it was homegrown salad, with only a tiny fraction of the store-bought cost.

There's a little more work involved, but every time I gather goodies from the garden and do my prep work, I just count pennies saved and think about how good it's all gonna taste for dinner once it's chilled.

Great rewards so far in this unusually nice year.  And, to think we're still nine days out from official summer.

No complaints.  Happy Wednesday.
