Biking Bakers and Lodgepole Society

Our new friends, the Bakers, will be on their way toward Montana in a short while, now that they're official.

As they move on down the highway toward Maine, they can pass along the fun spirit that goes with being official members of the Lovestead Lodgepole Society.

After a day of visiting Schweitzer and playing "turist" in downtown Sandpoint, our guests returned to their temporary home, eager to head to the the double-forked Lodgepole in our back pasture for the induction ceremony.

Bill read the induction declaration, and then each signed the log----as scores of other visitors have done in our two yellow log books since we first began the Society back in 2006.

Last night's induction of the Bakers was special because it marked the exact calendar date seven years ago when I looked up at that huge, remarkable tree and dubbed it the God Tree, as I thanked God for our good fortune of calling this place our home.

When I told Bill about my designation of the God Tree, he decided it might be fitting for us to start the Lodgepole Society, whereby visitors to our farm would make the walk or UTV ride through our beautiful forest, stand and admire the huge tree and join forces with a host of others who appreciate nature's workings, especially with that unusual lodgepole (pinus contorta).

We love all that goes with inducting members into our rather unique society, and we hope that all who have signed the log over the years feel the same.

A wonderful experience of welcoming three strangers turned friends to our home will soon end, but I think we'll be keeping in touch.  Maybe some day other members of the Baker clan will descend upon the Lovestead to see the tree and sign the yellow log book.

For now, we'll just wish this segment of Bakers the best as they direct those bikes on down the road for the adventure of their lives.

Happy Wednesday, and safe travels, Bob, Ray and Melinda.
