Saturday Slight

What a fun day yesterday turned out to be!  It all started Thursday when I went to my sister's classroom and spent time with a student to help her improve her reading skills.

Very nice little lady, she was.  We'll be getting to know each other better and I'm hoping her reading gets better as the year progresses.

After leaving the school, I stopped by Miller's Country Store to see their new expansion and to buy some treats, of course.

While walking through the new area, I spotted a couple of beautiful tables and suggested to the owner that the area must be where people enjoy their lunches.

Nan told me those tables were actually for sale.  They're constructed with wood from Amish barns.  Of course, the craftsmanship is exquisite, as was that in some rocking chairs in the same area.

I tried the chairs and fell in love with one, especially because sitting in it was heavenly comfort.  Plus, it was oak with a unique design.  A rolling rocker with a swivel!

I couldn't get my mind off that chair and later told Bill about it.  The mind kept pressing, so yesterday morning I called and told the staff not to sell that chair cuz I was going to buy it.

Later, while talking to Debbie, we arranged to get together and drive the pickup to town so I could pick up the chair.

She also had to move some shelving and other items from her Girl Scout office to Community Hall, so our trip had a dual purpose.

This morning, I can finally officially announce that, after several years with the Girl Scouts as their North Idaho and Eastern Washington representative,  Debbie Love is taking on a new role in the Sandpoint community.

On Tuesday, Oct. 1 she will start serving as executive director of Pend Oreille Arts Council aka POAC.  We are all so proud and thrilled for her.  She'll be working in her new office next to the Panida.

Anyway, after moving her shelving to the Girl Scout room at Community Hall, we parked on First Avenue to see her new office.  POAC administrative assistant Kaori was there to welcome Debbie with open arms.

We had a great time,  visiting with Kaori and then went on our way to Miller's to pick up the chair.

It was lunch time, so before taking the chair, we enjoyed a hearty bowl of their potato soup.  YUM YUM YUM!  So good!

Then, Rod Miller loaded the chair in the pickup box and told us it would be just fine for the trip home.  And, he was right.  The chair rocked quietly and happily all the way home. Well, it seemed happy anyway.

While going north on Great Northern Road just past our old place, Debbie decided we needed a photo of the chair.  So, that's her artistry above.

The chair in transit pretty much reflects the mood of the day.  We had a great time, in spite of a little spitting rain.

And, the fun continued when my brother Kevin showed up for a visit with his dog Levi.

Later, we went to the high school and helped my sister Barbara load the makeshift pen used for the Great Goat Drop.

This event, altered slightly from past years where it's been the "horse-apple dump," was a fundraiser for Monticola and Cedar Post

The lucky winner who had drawn the exact square where the goat did its duty won $500. She's a new English teacher at the high school, so we losers will not complain too much.

We topped off the night with everyone meeting at Mick Duffs for dinner and some good visiting.

The fun continues today.  A friend gave Bill tickets to today's Vandal football game in the Kibbie Dome.  Someone is going to pull off their first win today because both Temple University and the Vandals have lost all their games so far this season.

Maybe today will be a big day for the Vandals; after all, it's Homecoming.  It's been a while since I've attended a football game at my alma mater, so this rainy day seems like an appropriate time to be indoors watching all the color.

Willie will be there in the press box,  covering the game for two newspapers, while Bill and I will be enjoying our seats on the 50-yard line.

I've got to go get my uniform of mostly black with a little gold, and I'll be ready.

Our new chair will get a break today, but we're looking forward to lots of good times ahead, especially those ZAGS games when family gathers in our own Bulldog Den throughout the winter months to watch some college basketball.

Fun stuff. Let it rain!  Happy Saturday.
