Saturday Slight

When sun breaks through on a foggy, frosty Friday in late December, it can create some spectacular images. That's precisely what was happening yesterday morning as I walked north on our country road.

I even traveled a little ways further than usual---far enough to see a clear and vivid view of beautiful Roman Nose in the Selkirk Mountain Range.

Frost on limbs, soft touches of fog and brilliance of the blue skies to the west created a wonderful treat for the morning walk.

Today looks like another beauty, without so much fog or frost.

We have so far enjoyed a delightful winter, and now that the days are getting longer, we have beat the dismal times and are embarking on yet another year of adventure and awakenings.

This morning marked departure time for many family members bound for their homes, some headed to Oregon, some to Montana and our Annie back to Seattle.

Throughout the last week with company coming and going, I've broken my usual routine of tidying up the house and have simply gone with the flow.

So, a portion of today will involve getting back to organization and less clutter.  I always love this time after Christmas because, once the clean-up project is completed, the house feels a whole lot bigger, for a while, at least.

Today marks a beginning, of sorts, for our winter entertainment.  The ZAGS are playing the first game of their league schedule.  They've had a week off, and they may be playing without Sam Dower, a senior star who was injured in a bad landing during last week's game.

But maybe we'll see Angel Nunez play tonight in the Santa Clara game.  He's been waiting all season (had to sit out because of his transfer), and fans are anxious to see what he adds to the Bulldogs' talents after his transfer from Louisville.

And, so on this Saturday morning, the major aspects of another holiday season are drawing to a close.  We have family birthdays during this time---today is my niece Laura's 40th, and I wish her a great day.

Willie and Debbie are back from their visit to Debbie's family in Boise, as of last night, and I'll be asking Willie to spend some time showing his dad how to operate his new Go Pro camera.  It's not often that I have an easy time figuring out gifts for Bill.

This year, however, he unwittingly told me what he wanted.  We were watching a segment on "60 Minutes" several weeks ago, which demonstrated the use of the "Go Pro" camera.

"I want one of those," Bill commented while watching.

"Mark that in your brain," I thought to myself.  Now, he has the camera which can be mounted in various positions to capture some fun video AND he has to learn how to use it.That's where Willie, who's made a few videos of fly fishing experiences, comes in.

He started using a Go Pro a year or so ago and had a lot of fun with it.  So, the photography instructor can teach his dad some new tricks.

Who knows, maybe I can post some of Bill's Go Pro productions on the blog.  Stay tuned.

In the meantime, Happy Saturday, and GO ZAGS!
