Saturday Slight

I don't know how Mother Nature could have done better, providing us an absolutely glorious weekend for my friend Mow's visit.

As I look to the east at 5:30 a.m., the sun has not yet risen but there's a morning star twinkling in a clear, blue sky.

I am starting earlier than usual with this morning's posting and will probably add more thoughts later, after chores and the morning walk.

For now, it's very quiet here in the house.  Even Foster is content to curl up in his bed and add a few extra winks to his snooze time.

On this Saturday morning, we'll do the usual morning stuff----take horses to pasture, enjoy a walk, read papers, grab some breakfast and then head off for Clark Fork on a geocaching adventure. Mow's anxious to learn more about geocaching, and I have no doubt Bill will give her an excellent hands-on tutorial.

Ultimate destination:  the Pantry, so Mow can savor the flavor of a delicious sandwich with fresh-baked bread or try a slice of pizza.

The drive today should be prettier than ever----if that is possible.  Seems like every drive along the north shore of the lake is prettier than the last.  That's the fun of this country, especially when showing it off to visitors.

There's a sense of magic around this neck of the woods that truly latches on to the hearts of most everyone who ever comes here, especially on weekends like this one promises to be.

Once we've done the Clark Fork run, we'll come back home for a break and then head to Schweitzer, which should be fairly quiet today in comparison to our visit earlier this week during Fall Fest.

We'll top off the day at Dover Bay, yet another gorgeous place which has already attracted my friend's attention.

In my mind, this definitely a weekend that feels a lot like Christmas.  Hosting a friend in a beautiful country filled with a bounty of gifts of breath-taking scenic nature makes one feel a bit like Santa Claus.

As I told Mow, these experiences are also a treasured treat for Bill and me because we get to pretend we're on vacation ourselves----right in our back yard.

More later.

My friend Mow aka Jean and Bill as we head out for dinner last night with the gang at Jalapenos.

Well, now it's later.  The morning walk was exhilarating except it seemed like the sun was a bit tardy today. I guess it has a right to be on these fall days, but for some reason it seemed later than usual.

Finally, though, on my way back, it came peeking over the Cabinets.

Mow was still snoozing when I arrived home, so I read the paper and cooked up some bacon.  She's now up and downstairs talking to Bill and preparing for a breakfast of all local neighbhorhood-generated products----Wood's bacon, huckleberry scones, prepared by our neighbors down Selle Road who own Miller's Country store, last year's honey from the hives across the road in Taylor's field and jelly from the Lovestead plum trees and raspberry bushes.

Once the morning chores are completed, we'll head out on the next adventure toward Clark Fork.

Good times, good food, good scenery.  Love it.

Happy Saturday.
