Saturday Slight

Always Draft Horse Show favorites:  the Cramer Classics.

Lori and Gary

D'ya think Mitch is happy?  Probably so.

Good job, Leslie!

Ticket takers, former students and friends.  John sat in my first-period senior English class when I did my student teaching in 1969.  Kendra, of the wonderful Leen family,  came a little later, and I always remember that her birthday is the same day as Annie's.

Harvey, making the turn.

The Nagles, familiar faces year after year at the show.

Total magnificence

Waiting to perform.

Well, we made it to the Draft Horse Show on time last night, even though it looked for a while that the family members were going a few different directions.

When all was said and done, however, the group in two cars, coming from a few miles apart ended up side by side in the parking lot.

Then, it was off to check out the eating venues, buy the tickets and settle in for a night of spectacular beauty, entertainment and awe.

And, that was not just with the draft horses and mules either; the food, including Indian tacos, brats and kettle corn, hit the 'yum-yum' spot too.

We also enjoyed visiting the barn where the youngest entry with really long, fuzzy ears took our as as did Miss Viola Mae.

What made the show especially fun for us was watching and pulling for, in almost every class, several talented people we know well and appreciate.

That includes Harvey, who does the family’s farming; Lori who helps do the family's farming; Gary, my honking neighbor and owner of Miss Viola May; Leslie whose dad has his cows next door and who’s married to Harvey and the rest of the Lippert family, including a very happy Mitch.

Mitch and Leslie beamed with pride and joy as Leslie’s driving of the mules took them to a second-place finish in one class.

As winners of some classes took their victory laps around the arena, some of us felt goosebumps and total awe at the magnificence performing before us.

It's a great show, as it has been every year, and there's a lot more to be seen at the Bonner County Fairgrounds through the weekend.

Even my son, who would usually rather watch sports than a horse show, shot a really cool but all too short video of one class winner.  Someone in the family crowd set it to music and they posted it on Facebook.

So, if you're a FB friend, check it out.  I just wish it were longer cuz it's that neat.

Looks like the family will be headed different directions again today with fish to catch, horses to ride, a theater event, and, of course, checking out the weekend sports highlights.

Happy Saturday.
