Rainy Days and Frosting on the Cake

Baby, the rain must fall, and so it did yesterday, giving the earth an extra cleansing and later in the day, the sky some neat cloud formations.

All the early spring dust, which was collecting on tree limbs and window sills a couple of weeks ago, has disappeared, except for those items I haven’t dusted inside the house.

We do have a clean Earth to start out this Sunday, and I have about 50 transplanted tomatoes which spent their first night out in the greenhouse, thanks to yesterday’s rain.

Only problem with transplanting into bigger containers is that my greenhouse is not very big.  So, I’m gonna have to go creative in figuring out where to put everything.

We do have a big work table out in the shop with windows on both sides, so it may get some greenhouse use this spring.

The Selle neighborhood deer have returned much earlier than usual this year.  They’ve established a pretty regular routine of moseying through our place to grab a few bites of baby grass before heading on to the Meserve Preserve or back to the Kauble’s place to our south.

We see them two or three times a day----sometimes four, sometimes five.  Last night they spotted me and took a little different route to get wherever they were going.

Today is my brother’s birthday. He's in town, so we’ll be eating our cake and having ZAGS too this afternoon around 2.

I told Bill this morning that it’s time for a new chapter in the ZAGS history book as the 17 years in the Dance, two Elite Eights, the Sweet Sixteens, the One and You're Done stories and the oft-repeated cynical "they don't play anyone" have been regurgitated enough.

We want a Final Four chapter to add to the remarkable story of this team, its coaches and its fanatic followers.

It will be difficult to write that new chapter today because Duke is so good, but Duke has lost a few times this year.

I think Coach Mike would be upset a bit but probably okay if Coach Mark stole his thunder just this one time.

Who knows the outcome.  I guess we’ll all know by about 4 p.m. this afternoon.  We’ll either be ecstatic or reflective and once more grateful for what the ZAGS have done for us through another winter.

It’s hard to be too disappointed because they’ve given their fans the usual diet of excitement along with a whole lot of extra special treats this year.

Nonetheless, I wouldn’t mind some additional frosting to go with today’s birthday cake, of the ZAGS flavor, that is.

Happy Sunday and GO ZAGS!!!
