Saturday Slight: Natural and Haunting Beauty of a Day

We enjoyed a truly beautiful day here yesterday.  Hard to think, with views such as this down South Center Valley Road, that we had no views, thanks to smoky air just a few weeks ago.

Nice to have North Idaho back at its best, especially as we begin another autumn, always the loveliest time of the year, as far as I'm concerned.

I hooked up my lawnmower bags yesterday afternoon and started the annual leaf pickup in the lawn.  Millions yet to come, but if I can keep on top of it before we have a heavy rain, that will be good.

I also spent some time at the Idaho Draft and Mule International Show yesterday at the fairgrounds.

Soon after arriving, I ran into one of the family outlaws (Jim Thompson) who escorted me over to their travel trailer where his wife and my brat buddy Rose Marie happened to be.

Rose Marie had a knee replacement a few weeks ago and is getting along quite well.  She still, however, doesn't mind using her John Deere 4-wheeler for transportation.

We also used her rig as our picnic headquarters while enjoying our annual brats from a booth which has changed owners a few times but not the recipes.

Glenn and Chrissy Johnson from the Athol area now own the traveling sausage wagon, now known as "The Wurst Man in Town."

They're a very nice couple, and they seem thrilled with their new enterprise, which they purchased in July.  Our sandwiches, drink and chips (we ordered the kiddie meal) were delicious, as always.

The Johnsons have added a new feature to the menu for all those vegetarians out there: they call it a sauerkraut sandwich, noting that the kraut with some of that sweet mustard is mighty tasty.

Rose Marie and I enjoyed a good visit, and then I went on my way, spending some time with my friend Bonnie (the Tennessee Mule Artist) and her friend Gabe Gabel, who offers some phenomenal sculptures.

As usual with the annual draft and mule show, the fairgrounds was alive with a variety of down home activity----bathing and fitting horses, selling horse goods, prepping for classes and just plain good visiting.

I spent part of yesterday's beautiful day, glued to the television set, watching Pope Francis address the United Nations and then watching him and his entourage at a Ground Zero tour and ceremony.

It's hard to sift out the most inspirational images of this past week during all the hours I've watched----they have all inspirational and moving.   This pope appears to be and has reported to be one of the most genuine human beings I have ever seen in the public spotlight.

He is amazing, to say the least, and I've grown to love his expressions, especially when his face lights up in the midst of common, everyday, ordinary people.

We are blessed to have such a phenomenal figure to nudge us along a better path.

One of the most meaningful and hauntingly beautiful moments in all this Papal splendor occurred during the Ground Zero ceremony.  No words can convey the beauty of this segment during such a powerful, harmonious gathering.

So, I'll simply leave you on this Saturday morning to view the video below.

Shalom!

So, moving and beautiful. I especially enjoyed the cardinals singing along with the chorus
