One Fine Day

Flashing "engine" lights on our Subaru dash, which tended to drive us crazy while driving, got fixed yesterday.

While driving the car home last night, this scene at the former U of I Experiment Farm required a stop and a click or two.

Yesterday didn't start out so good when Mr. Coffee suddenly died.

Still, the day just kept getting better.  By day's end we even had a new Mr. Coffee.

Lots of good stuff happened on this almost perfect day.

First and foremost, Bill started walking on all two's.

He waited until the clock had struck midnight and ticked on to Tuesday, April 23, to progress from 50 percent to 100 percent weight on that healing foot in the boot.

Once that started, Bill kept busy with projects pretty much the whole day.  Even took the garbage to the transfer station.

I have a feeling he may have driven on to check out Grouse Creek after spending some time admiring his new drift boat, which arrived yesterday.

No worries, locals!

He won't be taking the boat to Grouse Creek, but there are some great rivers around the area where he and Willie will most likely float and fish this summer.

In one project during the day, we teamed up in a frustrating but finally successful effort to open the walk-in door to our shop.

Apparently some ground heaving over the winter caused the latch to get stuck REALLY tight.  After screwdriver work and some crowbar efforts, the door finally opened.

Now, we have to figure out how to get it back at a level where it can be shut and opened again.

Yard work continues with pulling of more weeds and removal of scraggy looking grass around the north yard planters.

More lettuce went from the greenhouse to one of the garden boxes while cucumber starts went from the garden window to the greenhouse.

As we worked at our projects, birds chirped, dogs played and leaves began to pop out.

Could be today we'll get to enjoy that lovely radiance which comes when the sun shines on those brand new, baby leaves.

Yesterday and today, Miss Sunny has been widening her circle of adventure from the barn tack room to the aisle and to some of the prime mouse hangouts in the barn, one of which includes a bunch of boards.

The other day when Sunny was behind those boards, I thought she had escaped the barn, but she finally showed her face and worries were put to rest.

She enjoys her three-story condo and talks to me a lot. I think she's making a great adjustment.

Today at our house marks the beginnings of E-DAYS.

While Willie and Debbie accompany journalism students to a national convention in Los Angeles, Bill and I will be playing host grandparents to Emma from Berlin.

She'll be staying with us through this weekend, and we'll function as her taxi service to and from school, among other activities.

Today she has a tennis match so after that, she'll have barbecue for dinner and remain officially be under our watch.

We're looking forward to having Emma.  She has asked me to take pictures when her date Brandon picks her up for the Prom on Saturday.

This morning I realized that this particular photo assignment is a bit serendipitous.

Brandon is the star weight man for the Sandpoint High Track team, and what do we have in our front yard?

A shot put/discus circle.

We're probably among few people in the world with such a front-yard accessory.

I'm figuring that cement circle, which was used by a track athlete who once lived here hurled for the University of Idaho track team will serve as a perfect setting for one of the Prom photos.

Emma may not be that excited, but I'm sure Brandon will appreciate it.

In fact, Bill suggested this morning that if Brandon wants to come out and heave ho a few across the yard from the circle, we'll put the dogs away.

Or, maybe he could substitute Chuck-it balls for the shot put and discus.

Liam would LOVE that.

Anyway, life is gonna be fun, adventurous and interesting with a teen in the house.

Again, never a dull moment!

Happy Wednesday.
