This morning Taylor's cows are sad.

As are their calves.

Weaning time and a noisy time as mamas and babies cry out for each other.

This morning, a lot of local television viewers are mad.

That would include all DirecTV customers.

Second channel this year to go down went down last night, apparently without much warning.

Channel 6, KHQ, NBC channel, which includes a lot of NFL games that could have been watched after Fox 28 went down months ago (Seahawks main channel for watching).

Channel 6 carries the finals of "America's Got Talent" and, later, even more potentially disheartening/maddening:  Gonzaga men's basketball, plus a lot of the best prime time TV shows plus "Jeopardy," plus Who Wants to Be A Millionaire.

I mention the last program for my friend Jean whose post was the first I saw on Facebook last night suggesting something was amiss.

When I saw other posts, I came downstairs, flipped the channel, and, sure enough, no KHQ.

What's with these corporate hogs anyway?  Once again--- following a disgusting trend---the almight dollar "trumps" service to customers.

It stinks, and I hope it gets solved soon.

Other than sad cows and mad TV watchers, yesterday was a pretty fun day.

The annual "Ron's Party" for retired teaching staff members happened at Duane and Marilyn Ward's beautiful backyard.

Besides a gimp or two and a few folks on the mend, everyone seemed upbeat and happy.

It's always good to reconnect, and it's especially good for this crowd to keep showing up.  That means we're still here.

The party has recently been dubbed "Ron's Party," because our colleague, the late Ron Hunt who served as SHS social chair extraordinaire, started the event nearly 20 years ago.

Since Ron's passing Duane and Marilyn have hosted the potluck.

Every year, we see one or two brand, spanking new oldies who are celebrating their first year of life after teaching.

Yesterday's party was fun, relaxing and pretty darned quiet for a bunch of teachers.

I do have to mention that some people were maybe talking loud----when they were talking to a colleague sporting a hearing aid.

Otherwise, calm, cool and downright fun.

We miss you, Mr. Hunt.

TBT's . . . .some September shots from a few years back, including an Ephrata trip with some cousins, Todd and Brooke (the grandpuppies) who turned 12 this week, Bill Hawkins and a friend from a hunting trip up Grouse Creek.

Also, tonight I'll be taking Terra over to my sisters' again to practice with Lefty in the arena for the Thank Goodness, It's the Last Horse Show of the Season.

So, a few shots from a show several years ago when Barbara and I participated in the Red Hat class on our two young horses, Dusty and Lily.

And, young Shawn won a blue ribbon on his palomino.

Behind the scenes horse show workers extraordinaires Moreen and Moriha.

Sister Laurie was riding her Rusty in those days, and I was just getting going with my Lily back in 2009.

Some great memories, and I must say that old cabin in the meadow along Pack River has disintegrated a bit over the years.
