Twas a beautiful night at McArthur Lake last evening.
Driving to the area near Naples north of Sandpoint was a good idea too. The Subaru's air conditioning felt heavenly after a day spent in the heat and dust on the lawnmower.
We have visitors coming this weekend, both staying in travel trailers here on the place. One trailer is already set up next to the house; that's Annie's summer pad.
This afternoon Cousin Rich will arrive with his brand new travel trailer. He'll be staying for a few days.
So, yesterday involved the last-minute prettying up of the place, and it was looking lovely.
This morning, though, a warm @^$&## wind has scattered leaves around several parts of the lawn.
When the wind dies down, I'll probably take a few quick rounds with the lawnmower to chop them all up.
We're not too worried about indoors here for the visitors because they will spend little, if any, time in the house, wearing masks, of course.
Though I keep my house fairly neat and kinda clean, I love this aspect of the Pandemic.
I don't have to race around with a vacuum cleaner and dust rag and all that other cleaning stuff. And, the fact that today is supposed to be even warmer than yesterday makes me even happier not to sweat through a bunch of house work.
We do have a sparkling new fancy kitchen range, though, thanks to the hauling and unloading and installation efforts of Rob and Steve who brought the stove yesterday morning.
Nice young men, especially gracious about my asking them to wear masks in the house. Bad cop had to do her thing, and then we enjoyed a wonderful conversation.
So far, Bill has cooked water and breakfast sausages on the new stove, and Annie is anxious to give it a try for her Totinos pizzas.
Speaking of Annie, what a week she has had!
Not only is her geocaching tracking code on its way to Mars, a photo she took on a Montana trip earlier this summer, appeared on the cover of this week's Sandpoint Reader.
You'll see the cover below.
Bill and I are both proud and happy for Annie. In fact, Bill suggested that she let us know when she reaches the former Long Bridge Restaurant tonight on her way in from Seattle.
"We could call on a crowd to be there to greet her, all waving Readers," he suggested.
And, we could have these people stationed all along the walking bridge waving papers as she drives into town," I added.
Bill also mused that we could get some of that local self-appointed militia with their assault rifles for security.
I told him maybe not.
THIS JUST IN: I had already posted when I discovered that Willie has a new podcast this morning, and his interviewee thrills me beyond belief.
Jared Phay's mom and I have been friends forever, dating clear back to when our parents started the North Idaho Arabian Club.
Jeannie Thompson, daughter of Sy and Avis, and I attended many meetings with our parents.
Later, we both earned our degrees and taught high school English.
Then, we both had sons, and both of those sons loved basketball. In fact, we sat in the stands watching our sons play during summer league.
Both sons eventually became basketball coaches----Jared has coached men's basketball at NIC, College of Southern Idaho and Idaho State. He has just started coaching at Missouri State West Plains.
And, of course, Willie has coached both boys and girls basketball at Sandpoint High School.
I can't wait to tell Jeannie Phay to check out this podcast. We have shared so many good times associated with teaching, horses and our sons.
So this is a thrill. Check out the interview at
Yup, our kids DO make us very proud and happy, and thank God for them and scores of other really nice people during these times.
Here's a heads-up for the weekend. I'll be doing my best to keep up with the blog, but if it's a bit substandard for the next few days, you'll know why.
I'll be enjoying every minute of an event I've looked forward to for months. And, by golly, unlike so many other activities in our lives this year, this one looks like it's gonna happen, even though the guidelines we follow for the Pandemic might make it a bit weird.
We'll have fun regardless.
Happy Friday. Stay cool.
