Eagles, Beans and Masks, Oh My!!

We ate those beans last night.

Pretty tasty.

So far, all strawberries have gone in the freezer.  I think I have four pint baggies so far and lots more pickin' to go.

The day before yesterday, I took the pruning shears and chopped off several giant raspberry bushes so my cucumbers could get some sunlight and so I wouldn't walk on them while picking raspberries.

It was a good stroke of business to move the raspberry plants a couple of years ago, but I'm afraid we may have to develop a new garden space for all the other veggies.

Those raspberries are outright bullies of the garden, to say the least, taking up all the room and grabbing more land by the day.

For the time being, thanks to the pruners, my cukes are seeing the sun and they might just have a chance to develop into tasty salad goodies.

Nice to have the hot, hot days over with and looking forward to just hot today.  I've been watering stuff twice a day this week so it will be nice to have a little relief.

Other than that, not much other news.  When I was talking to my friend Helen yesterday, we were agreeing that the conversations these days are pretty limited.

With no sports and no real socializing (for some of us, i.e., the "you're one of those" set), we seem to talk a lot about all aspects of the Pandemic.

BTW:  for those of you who are like me with enquiring minds, we learned yesterday (thanks to Helen asking on a local radio show) that Panhandle Health is now releasing the daily Covid statistics at 5 p.m. rather than noon.

Could be that an increase in numbers of cases in the area is putting on the pressure to assemble the facts accurately and in a timely manner.

Anyway, the subject of masks probably gets top nod in Covid discussion topics.

Heck, now that the President has decided there's some wisdom in wearing them, I'm betting that "mask" might win the prize for the most used words in 2020, along with maybe some choice expletives.

Did they have a mask question on that test he took?  And, if he got the right answer, did that cause him to change his mind?

There are also growing number of chain stores that have the absolute nerve to require masks or get no service.

I've seen lots of indignant threats over the past few months, mainly I'm not gonna shop there anymore!

Well, when the list of shopping opportunities dwindles down to nothing, maybe the gas/convenience stores are gonna do a land-office business.

It's all relative, and let's hope a year from now, the word "mask" and the item itself have outlived their usefulness.

We can only hope and pray.

One glimmer of good news, baseball is still on for tomorrow night.  I'm looking forward to seeing Dr. Anthony Fauci throw out the opening pitch for the Washington Nationals-New York Yankees game.

I'm not a diehard fan of baseball, but after so many months of so few live sporting events, it will be a refreshing distraction.

Maybe we'll get off the subject of Covid for five minutes.

Happy Wednesday.

Can someone tell me what this fascinating flower is?

Seems like I might have asked some other time, but can't remember.

It puts on quite a pre-show.  Suddenly there's a tall stem with a bunch of big, plump buds.

After a couple of weeks one, then another and another blossom gradually opens.

I'm not even sure where it came from, unless it was a shrub which takes a few to manifest its full show.

Whatever the case, I hope blossom number one is still beautiful when blossom number 30-something opens up.

Should be quite a magnificent sight if that happens.

Do you ever listen to and absolutely love songs for years on end having no idea who's playing or singing them?  Then, one day you experience an "aha" moment?

It turns out you've actually heard of the group or the singer and you've heard of the song but have never connected the two.

That's kinda how it was for me and the Eagles.

I knew people who loved the Eagles and would do anything possible to attend one of their concerts.

Then, one day, my "aha" moment came while listening to an Eagles CD on a road trip, and, by golly, I discovered I was of the same ilk as all those professed Eagles fan.

Life has often moved too fast in my crazy world for me to take time to learn the details about songs or who sings them.

And, so years passed before I realized that, yes, indeed, I had always loved the Eagles too.  Didn't know who that group was, just listened to the music and loved it.

What's in a name anywho?

Since that Eagles epiphany, I've joined the ranks of a proud and proclaimed lover of the group and all their songs.

This morning when I learned that it was Don Henley's birthday (same vintage as I---just three weeks younger), so I decided it would be appropriate to include an Eagles tune in the blog.

Happy Birthday, Don, and thanks Eagles for all those songs, now very nostalgic to your fans who are aging right along side you.

Keep flyin' high cuz we love your talents.
