Saturday Slight

It's cold.

We have lucked out this summer with very few 90-plus days, most of which were last week when the thermometer soared into three digits.

In fact, I remember driving back from Naples one day around 5:30 p.m. and seeing 100 on my car thermometer.

Well, last night was dramatically different.

As we gathered in the front yard for Friday-night dinner and began eating around 6:30, two shirts (one long-sleeved) seemed like enough for me.

It wasn't.

Soon, I went inside and grabbed a fleece.

That kept me warm for about 15 minutes.

Then, came a jacket---four layers IN AUGUST.

Hard to believe at this time of year, but we're not complaining.  In fact, it looks like perfect weather with cool nights and comfortably warm days ahead.

One very happy aspect of this 2020 summer-----no forest fire smoke.  Fingers crossed that it stays that way.

I was struck yesterday as I drove around Selle and up Rapid Lightning Road with the awesome beauty of the afternoon skies and with strikingly gorgeous GREEN fields of August.

It's an unusually lush and lovely time, weatherwise and with perfect conditions for enjoying the outdoors and exploring the back country.

Family members will take advantage of that situation today with a hike to a mountain lake.

Some will stay overnight and do some star gazing, while others will do a little fishing and then make the trek back off the mountain, maybe picking a huckleberry or two.

Should be fun for all.

Happy Saturday.  Enjoy your day.
