Pretty Day

Bill and I played "turist" for a little while in downtown Sandpoint yesterday.

It was a gorgeous time to be out and about and walking around town.

After receiving our Covid booster shots, we decided to celebrate with a treat.

Our plan took us for the first time to Spuds Restaurant with its new remodel.

It's a nice change with the tables outside and covered and, of course, the views of Sand Creek and the mountains.

We learned firsthand yesterday about the frustration of business owners regarding a lack of adequate, affordable housing for workers in the downtown eating establishments.

So sad, at this the most beautiful time of year, for local eating establishments to be short-handed and operating a few days at a time, rather than seven days a week during the height of the tourist season.

Sandpoint has spent forever, it seems, working toward its present role as a destination place.

Now, the town has reached that stage, and the housing shortage is handicapping its primetime economy, as evidenced by the story below in this week's Sandpoint Reader.

All that said, Bill and I still enjoyed ourselves, with our treats and while walking around town enjoying the local sights.

We knew that fun times were coming for us with the booster shot, and, yes, they did overnight with aches and pains and discomfort while trying to sleep.

This, too, will pass, though, especially thanks to Tylenol. Plus, the long-lasting effects of the vaccine should help in the overall mission to get some control over Covid.

Get vaccinated.

Then, afterward, go downtown and patronize the restaurants.  They'll appreciate you.

Happy Thursday.
