It's pickle-making day here at the Lovestead.
Bill is headed out for a tree-farm gathering in Bonners Ferry.
We had rain overnight, and some high percentages of rain are forecast for today.
I'm pretty sure he's taking plenty of rain gear with him.
My pastures, which have been left ungrazed for several weeks, are looking better and greener every single day.
Such a good sign for fall feeding. Maybe we won't have to break into that pile of winter hay too much.
Yesterday I brought the last of my cucumbers to the house and decided we have enough for a good batch of bread-and-butter pickles.
One year I used a recipe that netted THE tastiest pickles ever. I can remember giving jars of pickles to people and even having some recipients asking for more.
I have no idea what happened to that recipe, so today will use what looks like the best and easiest method for brine.
Looking forward to the day when I can start smothering my hamburgers and German sausages with the final product.
In other news, I'm finding myself back in the habit of checking daily facts and figures about Covid in the our area.
Two new deaths and 43 new cases in Bonner County were reported in today's Panhandle Health statistics.
That's ten deaths in a week's time.
Earlier this morning, Bill read to me parts of the following commentary featured in this morning's Spokesman-Review.
The opinion piece points out that Idaho's problem with its Covid surge and hospital bed shortage is now becoming the state of Washington's problem.
Oh what a tangled web this Pandemic continues to weave, and to always be reminded that some changes in attitude and behavior could make such a positive difference for our health and well being.
Too bad and so sad.
That said, I'm off to cook up some pickles.
Happy Saturday.
