Some Rain; Some Shine

Lily doesn't like rain.

She had to deal with plenty of the wet stuff over the weekend, so the shelter in the hay field served as an escape.

She refused to walk out of the shelter to meet me at the gate when it was time to lead her back to the barn.

So, I went to her.

We had rain and we had shine yesterday.

And, when the shine came after a downpour,  the color contrasts between sky and earth were striking.

Weekend rain storms have ended, leaving some nice refreshment for all living plants.

Now, we're headed for another week of nice fall weather, a little cold at night and comfortable in the day time.

Two more days until fall officially begins, and the colorful leaves are starting to drop and pile up.

This week, the bags will go on the back of the lawnmower, and I'll begin the marathon of leaf pickup, which usually stretches until early November.

This year has flown by so fast.

I have a simple request.

Could fall please last longer than usual???

Just askin'.

I saw this announcement for the first time this morning.  What a wonderful event for our area!

Each year the Hickey-Holt family adds even more perfection to the pumpkin weekends.

Sometimes Mother Nature doesn't help, but on a beautiful fall day, there's no better place for wholesome family fun and stunning beauty.

Cantaloupe No. 2 from the Lovestead manure-pile garden.

Our assessment upon cutting it open:  still a little green but juicy and starting to get some flavor.

I've picked several others, which will have more time to ripen.  If we're lucky, maybe we'll get to bite into some perfect musk melon fruit.

The best part:  the planting project was a success.  I don't know if I would do it again.  For this year, it offered a fun gardening challenge.

Guess that's all for this Monday.

Have a great day.
