Thursday This That; TBT

Opening Day at a Country School . . .

What a treat it was yesterday morning to spend time watching wonderful moments as parents, grandparents, etc. brought their children for the first day of classes at Selle Valley Carden School.

I have been blessed over the years to peek in on and even participate sometimes in activities at this phenomenal school on Selle Road not far from our home.

In fact, I even treasure the bird houses they built and brought to me one day a few years ago.

Many of those kids are now high school students.

It's hard to adequately describe the loving, excited and warm atmosphere one feels at this school without actually being there.

If I were 6 years old, as a confirmed farm kid, I would have been over-the-top thrilled to spend my school day and my entire elementary education at this rural facility.

Twas obvious from expressions of students and their family members that yesterday's beginning of a new school year, complete with two new middle school classes, was something special.

It's not exactly in the cards for this old fogey to enroll in Selle Valley Carden School, not only because of age but also because of a waiting list.

That says a lot.

Thanks, Carden School staff, for allowing me to quietly watch and document a few precious scenes during an exciting opening day.

Good luck to all in this upcoming school year.

Nice News:

Former ZAGS player Kevin Pangos has signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA.  So deserving for this hard-working, steady player.

ZAGS Kevin Pangos, Mike Hart and Drew Barham, taken after a game Bill and I attended at BYU in February 2013, the same week the ZAGS earned their first No.1 NCAA men's basketball ranking.

Bill and I were fortunate to meet all the team members that night and even get their autographs.

At least two of that group are now NBA players.

Some Covid-Related News with a good ending and a wise, timely and even reassuring reminder from my friend and Hope blogger, Connie. Well worth the read from start to finish.

And, as noted below, the cruise through the neighborhood in the car and around my yard on the lawnmower, added pretty moments to the day, as did a rollicking and enjoyable visit from one of the neighbors.

Living in Selle Valley ain't bad.  Have I said that before????

Some Thursday Throwbacks----a grab bag from my photo library.  Enjoy!

A fun connection with Aussie friends and horse lovers.

Below:  I have no idea who this man is, but when I saw him walking on his stilts over on Forest Siding Road about ten years ago, I had to take a picture.

It now seems weird to see Bill in pictures, wearing glasses because, thanks to his cataract surgery, he only wears them now for close-up stuff.

Queen for a Day.

That's what happened every year in Sandpoint when Women of Wisdom (WOW) were chosen and then honored for their life achievements.

Myrtle Burnett was a WOW a few years back.

Her daughter Delores, along with Women Honoring Women committee member Debbie Love, joined in the celebration.

Sadly, last year's honorees have had their gala cancelled twice, in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid.

It seems to me there's a purple cow story here.

Nieces Maureen and Laura could probably tell you "the rest of the story."

Little Maddie Darling, with Lefty in hand, is now an adult.

She, like most little girls, went through her stage of loving horses. For some, that lasts a lifetime.

Now, it seems strange to see pictures of Willie withOUT glasses.

He's wearing them these days; his dad is not.

And, some wonderful memories in those black-and-white beloveds.

Annie riding into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Ireland.

Sisters Laurie, Barbara and friend Nancy riding down the trail on a ride we took at Nancy's home at Pack River a few years back.

Good year for pumpkins back in 2011.  I have four comparatively small pumpkins on the vine this year.

Yup, that's SO true.
