Monday Miscellany

Last week of October, wow!

Of course, when you're having fun in another land for the first two weeks, I guess a month will go by pretty fast.

We were so lucky to enjoy the best of both worlds this month---all that time in Ireland AND coming home to one of the best autumn seasons ever.

Heck, even with yesterday afternoon's rain, the landscape and its inhabitants combined for awesome sights.

As I drove around the Selle area yesterday afternoon, it struck me that these days people sure do a lot of decorating for Halloween.

I grew up during an era where a simple pumpkin or maybe one dressed up artistically through carving and maybe a bar of soap to take along for trick-or-treating seemed to be sufficient symbols for Halloween festivities.

Nowadays, lots of folks go all out, and the creativity one sees while driving around is impressive.

Today, after an all-night storm, the rain has quit for a while.  I'm hoping for some dry time to pick up more leaves.

This is also the week for horses' hooves to have shoes removed and to be trimmed for winter.  I'm looking forward to the beginning of a new era of horse holding while Cecil takes care of the hooves.

It's also worming time.  I went to Co-Op yesterday and did notice some empty areas where some brands of worm medicine might usually be.

I'm sure the shortage has nothing to do with the Pandemic, and unlike Festus food, I was able to pick up three boxes of wormer for Lily, Lefty and CB.

Supply-chain issues keep us on our toes with Festus food.  Shelves were empty yesterday at two grocery stores for his specific brand and flavor.

We had bought ahead for the trip and had plenty left when we returned, but he has only a few days' worth left.

So, Bill and I will continue to team up stopping at stores at different times in hopes that some Purina Beyond turkey with sweet potatoes shows up.

This week my brother Mike and his wife Mary, all boostered up, will be coming for a visit.  We're looking forward to some catching up.

Meanwhile, back in Tulsa:  you can read below.

Dispatch from Tulsa
where yesterday Barbara won a Top Ten ribbon, a belt buckle and a plaque for placing National Top Ten in Western Trail Amateur Owner to Ride.

Laurie's holding the plaque and the buckle while Dusty's wearing the ribbon.

BTW:  Laurie will start competing nationally tomorrow when she rides Dusty tomorrow in a Western Horsemanship class.

Big day today for Barbara  and Roxzene.

In Barbara's words:

Today ends our trail portion of the US National Arabian Show in the Pavilion Arena with Dusty and Barbara showing in HA English Trail AAOTR in the morning session and Eddy and Roxzene joining Dusty and Barbara in HA Western Trail Select ATR in the afternoon.

Dusty tops off the day with HA Ranch Rail in the Mustang Arena in a LATE night section C. All can be seen on the live feed at

  http://www.arabianhorses.stream/ .

Tomorrow Laurie and Roxzene start the day with an early Western Horsemanship class in the Mustang Arena. Then a day of rest for all! 🙂

None of this would be possible without the great ground crew we have in Kevin and Denise. Thank you so much!

Finally, today I'm providing a link to a story in yesterday's Daily Bee

I've been following the carefully planned and promoted lead-up to this week's grand opening at the old Elmira store.

Looks like an interesting concept for the area, and with winter coming on, something new and pleasantly different.

Good luck to these folks. I may stop by Mountain Traders sometime this week and take some pictures for the blog.

For now, enjoy the story.

Happy Monday.
