Friday News and Views

Some Gary Finney family horses.

They came over to visit with me when I stopped at their gateway on Selle Road last night.

Big news from Fort Worth, Tex., and the 2022 Extreme Mustang Challenge.

Boston Bode, our neighbor from down Selle Road, daughter of Trent Bode and Tricia Dickens, sister of Terra and friend to many---including animals galore and a "village" of supportive peeps---is competing in youth division of the national competition.

This time she has taken an untamed mustang from the desert country of Nevada and trained her over the past six months, with the Fort Worth competition in mind.

Well, competition started yesterday, and Boston competed with Uptown Girl in her first two classes: trail and handling/conditioning.

Out of more than 40 entrants, Boston placed first in both.

She competes in freestyle today, and so far is in an excellent position to win the competition overall.

All those folks who know and love Boston are thrilled, to say the least.

Good luck today, Boston.  You've got this, and we are proud of you.

I'm sure that even Planet Earth wept yesterday after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II was announced.

For sure also, her horses and her dogs shed a tear or two.

And, the people from every corner of the globe, most of whom have never lived in a world without this Queen of England.

It was inevitable, of course. She was 96 and failing.

Still, it was shocking, especially for all who saw the photo of Queen Elizabeth shaking the hand of Great Britain's new prime minister Liz Truss on Tuesday of this week.

Ironic that a lady with Elizabeth in her name (Mary Elizabeth) would be the last public figure to be photographed with Elizabeth II, who also had Mary as part of her full name.

Maybe it was all meant to be, just like the rainbows which appeared almost in sync with the Queen's passing.

A challenging task lies ahead for Mary Elizabeth, considering she was the last British Prime Minister welcomed to office by the Queen AND knowing that Sir Winston Churchill was the first.

And, so the British monarchy goes on as does the British government.

Could it be that both Liz and King Charles III both clearly recognize both the opportunities and the challenges toward maintaining stability in our troubled world as they establish their respective legacies?

I hope so.

In the meantime, it's a sad moment for all who have lived a lifetime during history's second Elizabethan era.

RIP, Queen Elizabeth.

All the best to Prime Minister Truss and King Charles III.

Finally, I LOVE this classic story about the Queen.

Have I mentioned that I love the new grandpuppy Kenny?

I do.

Happy Friday.
