The Common Touch

I've been watching segments of Queen Elizabeth's funeral this morning and marveling at the pageantry and meticulous attention to tradition.

Also, witnessing the universal respect displayed throughout the miles and miles of humanity as she takes her final journey to her eternal home---it all makes me yearn for a time to which we could return.

Through most of my lifetime, respect and appreciation for tradition and common values has remained at the core of so much of what we experience in this world.

Sadly, so much of that has suffered in the past few years.

The Queen's funeral reminds me and hopefully millions of others on this earth of that we can set aside our differences and that we can still honor a shining example and a life well-lived.

After watching the funeral earlier this morning, I went outside to attend to my usual ritual of taking my horses to pasture and listening to the morning sounds.

This morning's sound show was highlighted by a train rumbling through the countryside and a spontaneous chorus of high-pitched coyotes from different areas reacting to the train whistle.

As I walked down the lane for the last time after sending three horses to pasture, I thought about the Queen and how she seemed to love more than anything her horses and her dogs.

She lived amidst unimaginable splendor but loved the countryside.

All the wealth in the world and she preferred the common touch.

Knowing that just made my day.

Happy Monday, and now go rest in peace, dear Queen Elizabeth, knowing that you inspired the multitudes.
