Kaden came to watch horses being trimmed and shod yesterday.
He went home with a pony shoe.
Kaden lives in Homer, Alaska. He's here in Sandpoint because his mom is doing a temporary nursing gig at a local assisted care facility.
It was neat to watch and listen as Kaden asked questions while Steve and Dave worked on horses' feet and provided answers.
Yesterday's session involved a trim, front shoes and a trim and a full shoeing.
Now, CB is good for some more riding sessions, as is Lily. Lefty gets to just hang out being a horse cuz I don't have much time for riding horses, especially three.
I enjoy putting together opportunities like Kaden's visit because it's always fun to watch learning in action.
As I told the farriers, he'll remember this day the rest of his life and probably keep that pony shoe in a safe place.
Kaden's visit meant that four generations of my friend Helen's family have now spent time at the Lovestead.
In 2008, Kaden's mom Zoe, her cousin Zack and his grandma Pam came out for a visit. We hadn't lived here for very long, and we had established the Lodgepole Society.
So, Pam, Zack and Zoe rode the 4-wheeler through the woods to the far end of the place to a huge double-forked Lodgepole pine tree where they were inducted into our Lodgepole Society.
Yesterday while driving Zoe and Kaden around the place in the 4-wheeler, I had to tell them that the tree no longer stands. It collapsed to the ground a few years ago, with the two trunks landing in opposite directions.
So, it was fun to show them the spot where Zoe had come on her first visit to the Lovestead.
Yesterday, with Helen's hubby Skip bringing Zoe and Kaden, three generations of Newtons visited.
And, so there was a little full circle stuff and some great learning in a short period of time.
Kaden says he'll come back for a ride on Lily during his stay in Sandpoint.
I'll hold him to that promise.

Speaking of learning while eating, here's an wonderful opportunity in our neighborhood.
It's tomorrow night, and as advertised, its purpose is to raise money for the Bonner County 4-H Horse judging team to raise money for a trip to Ohio and a national contest.
Bring money for chili, your camera and some more money for silent auction items. Plus, you can tour the beautiful facility and see the Clydesdales.
So, make your Friday night plans in beautiful Selle.
Thursday Throwbacks: stuff from my photo library.
