Except for the Mariners losing in the last second of a game where they had led all the way, yesterday was a pretty good day.
I don't watch baseball during the season, but when the play-offs come and Seattle's included, I enjoy following the action closely.
Saturday's game was nothing short of epic, with the Mariners coming from behind at 8-1 and winning 10-9.
I thought they were surely on a roll when we tuned in yesterday and the Mariners led over Houston 4-0.
Bill had to go to work, so while working on other projects, I kept track of the action and texted him the score throughout the rest of the game, and then, Ugh!
Maybe tomorrow's game will have a better ending.
I enjoyed another good ending with CB at trail class practice yesterday.
At my age, any time you get off the horse under your own accord, it's a giant success story.
And, I have a little help from Laurie who holds him at the mounting stand while I get on and Bill who comes over to Colburn just to hold CB when I get off.
The in-between stuff went fairly well too, with my conjuring up the nerve to trot him over several obstacles yesterday.
CB is learning the ropes and the routine, so each session seems a little easier for both of us.
It's unbelievably satisfying to go through these weekly practices, knowing we'd never be able to compete in a real trail class, but for CB and me, each little victory along the way means so much.
Yesterday his head bobbing occurred a few times but not with the frequency of last week.
CB seemed to respond to the cues strongly suggesting not to do that.
In other news, I'm loving this weather and happy to see some cold-weather garden items thriving.
Looks like we'll have a supply of homegrown lettuce for a while longer, and the chard is so beautiful, I hate to pick it.
The next couple of weeks will involve the annual "button up for winter" chores.
Hoses will be stored, shrubs will be pruned to the ground, garden accessories will be put away, and I'm hoping to have all the garden planters dismantled soon.
Bill has a gate project to finish so that we can open the gate to the barnyard when snow falls rather than having to shovel the gate out every time loads of snow come tumbling off the barn.
The gate will be moved to a different area along the fenceline.
I told Bill this morning that it's time to get a head lamp for my early morning chores. A little light on the subject will make latching gates a lot easier, with horses in hand.
Today or tomorrow, I'll start brush hogging the fields and picking up leaves in the yard.
Plenty to do, so there'll definitely be no boredom around the Lovestead.
The chimney sweep is coming today, so I'll leave that project to Bill and head north to pick up some apples for this year's supply of applesauce.
Lots to do.
Thankfully, the weather is cooperating for all these projects.
Happy Wednesday.
