Monday Monday

"Sometimes it just turns out that way."

It is Monday, and who knows what this day will bring.

We often wonder why things happen, and it seems The Mamas and Papas had that answer.

In their era, the only conclusion seemed to be that sometimes it does just turn out that way.

These days we hear "It is what it is."

Hmmm.  Maybe there's an idea for a song.

Seems like there would be plenty of material for the lyrics.

In the meantime, we have yet to know the lyrics that this day may inspire.

So far, in my world it's a blank slate, except on this early, early Monday Monday I can look out my window at a most beautiful early morning sky.

Long strips of dark gray clouds seemingly stacked on each other with soft orange sky as a backdrop.

Looks like the sun will try to make an appearance on this Monday Monday of a week which has been deemed "Sweater Weather" by the TV forecasters.

I like sweater weather, and I also like partially cloudy but occasionally sunny September days.

Could be this Monday Monday will be one of those, and as the day goes on, we just have to see how the day ahead turns out.

I do know how Sunday Sunday turned out.

It included a tree toad, a Seattle Seahawks overtime victory, some more "found" pumpkins in the patch, a trip to Trestle Creek to look at Kokanee AND a Mooch sighting in Taylor's field. Plus "60 Minutes" started a new season.

My day time projects, besides watching the last half of the exciting game between Seahawks and the Lions,   included pruning some shrubbery,  picking a few more baby pumpkins.

In one case, a little tree toad situation on a pumpkin leaf caught my attention.

The little guy seemed unaffected by my presence and didn't mind having his picture taken.

After dinner, Bill, Foster and I took a quick trip to Trestle Creek, which feeds into Lake Pend Oreille.

As noted in the summary below, the lower portion of Trestle Creek is filled with easily seen red fish.

It's spawning time, and every year the area attracts a steady stream of folks just like us who like to walk past the big cedars to the shady shore and spot the fish.

Kokanee salmon spawn starting in the late fall and some spawns last until the early spring.

Their natural instincts cause them to gather on gravel bars near lake shores or mouths of streams and rivers and look to begin the spawning process.

Like non-landlocked salmon, they’ll still return to where they were spawned to complete the process.

They’ll use their senses to smell and find the familiar water.

When we came home and were approaching our driveway, I spotted an unknown moving being out in the field with Taylor's cows.

At first, I thought it might be a coyote, but upon further observation, I recognized that creature.

MOOCH!

We haven't seen Mooch, the freeloading cat for about three months.

He's apparently been off mooching from other neighbors.  He showed up here last fall and just made himself at home in the barn and around the cat dish.

I can't say that I was excited to see Mooch, but I'm glad he knows how to survive.  I have a feeling that we'll be seeing more of him in our barn as fall turns into winter.

Sunny, who returned to the barn after summer vacation a couple of weeks ago, will be happy to see her friend back.

After a three-month hiatus, it appears that we'll no longer be catless in Selle.

Lots of mysteries about those cats, what they've been up to and where----but I guess it's just another one of those "It is what it is" and "it just turns out that way."

Sunny and Mooch, earlier this spring.

Just in case you have trouble reading the rules . . . .

Pastures are drying up again, so horses are getting hay to supplement.

I don't often feed hay in September, but this year it's a must.

The link below includes a sample of a college football saga that didn't just turn out that way.  I think it has had a little help from a media-savvy coaching visionary.

I'll admit to being fascinated with the Deion Sanders head-coaching story, and I think I'm not alone, since it was featured in a "60 Minutes" segment last night.

Happy Monday, Monday!

Catless in Selle (so glad Sunny and Mooch are back together!)
