Amazing Movie, Etc.

After 3.5 hours of sitting in the Sandpoint Cinema at Bonner Mall yesterday afternoon, Bill and I came outside the theater to be greeted by this scene.

It provided a brilliant, stunning and a striking punctuation mark to the movie we had just watched.

Both of us felt deeply affected and drained from watching the saga of the Osage people of Oklahoma and the brutal devastation which many experienced after striking it rich from the discovery of oil on their lands.

The narrative, along with amazing cinematography,  set designs, costuming and brilliant acting by big names in the movie business along with a phenomenal "breakout" performance by a little-known actress, provided an epic movie-going experience.

My daughter told me last week, after she watched, that Killers of the Flower Moon sped by much more quickly than one would expect from a marathon movie.

She was correct.

Annie also told us that the actress playing Mollie Burkhart had gone to school with one of her close friends Angela at Mountlake Terrace High School near Seattle.

Then high school senior Lily Gladstone had been selected by her classmates as the "Most Likely to Win and Oscar."

When we arrived home, I did a little research on Lily who plays the wife of Leonard DiCaprio's character, Ernest Burkhart. She was born in Browning, Mont., and her heritage includes Blackfeet and Nez Perce, as well as European.

One source says she is distantly related to former British Prime Minister William Ewert Gladstone.

After graduating from Mountlake Terrace High School, she graduated with high honors from the University of Montana in Missoula and continued to establish herself as an amazing talent.

So, she definitely has Northwest roots, and I'd say we can all be proud of her.

The movie itself, which leaves its audience emotionally touched and eager to contemplate, is definitely one worth seeing.

Fascinating story about Lily's high school alma mater screening.

On this Monday morning, it's still pretty cold outside.  I had to break down and pull out the heater for the barnyard water tank yesterday.

I think that's a first for October.

We are three degrees higher than the past two mornings and there is a warming trend with lows rising back into the 30s.

Leaves keep falling, and I'll be picking up a few thousand more today.

Thankfully, the dry weather has made yard work much easier than what we experienced last year.

These two and their friend, not in the photo, came slinking through the front yard yesterday.  It looks like they've had plenty to eat.

I'm guessing that, with water holes frozen over, they're probably on their way to wherever they spend the winter.

As October comes to a close and November begins, we can start thinking ZAGS this week.

They'll play Lewis and Clark College in an exhibition game at the Kennel in Spokane on Friday night.

Game time:  6 p.m. on KHQ Channel 6.

It will be fun getting acquainted with all the new faces.

Winter is coming, and we are thankful to have our favorite men's college basketball team help us through it.

GO, ZAGS!!!

Happy Monday.
