A Little Monday-Morning Joy

I have waited a long time to finally be able to make this exciting announcement!

Years of work have gone into into the development of this project.

I am very honored and proud to collaborate with the Galápagos National Park on this iconic project for the Galápagos Islands.

--Dr. Cathy King, founder and CEO of World Vets.org

Sandpoint High grad, Class of 1990

Washington State University Veterinary School alum

from Cathy:

BIG NEWS we are excited to share with you! World Vets announces iconic project for wildlife of the Galápagos Islands.

Last week, World Vets and the Galápagos National Park signed a landmark cooperation agreement for the construction of a Wildlife Rescue, Response, Rehabilitation and Conservation Center on San Cristobal Island, home to the largest population of Galápagos sea lions in the archipelago.

As part of a larger agreement, World Vets will also provide permanent veterinary support to the Galápagos National Park Rapid Response Program, provide health monitoring of endemic species and contribute substantially to the conservation of critically endangered species through field response and rescue work, conservation research, foundational capacity building and public outreach and education.

The groundbreaking ceremony for this iconic project, which was attended by numerous Park Rangers, government officials, and other agency representatives, marked a significant milestone of this multi-phase project that will contribute to the conservation of the unique biodiversity of the Galápagos Islands.

Danny Rueda Córdova and Dr. Cathy King sign a formal agreement of cooperation between World Vets and the Galapagos National Park.

Such a neat story, especially for those of us who knew Dr. Cathy King when:

--she was a member of our Schweitzer Valley Dwellers 4-H Club, along with her brother Bruce and sister Julie.

--when she was a student at Sandpoint High School

--when, as a young veterinarian, she saw a need, put a donation jar on the counter at the vet hospital where she worked in Deer Park, Wash., and, eventually, World Vets was born.

YES, with tomorrow as Giving Tuesday, if you're an animal lover, you can visit the World Vets website and donate.

It has been so fun over the years to follow Cathy and the continued growth of World Vets, which has attracted another Sandpoint High alum and veterinarian, Dr. Michelle Ward.

Michelle has served on several of Cathy's teams of volunteer veterinarians and techs who participate in spay and neuter clinics around the world.

BTW:  Michelle's Family Pet Emergency clinic in Ponderay will open in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, Cathy's amazing story, her vision and her continued efforts on a grand and global scale are nothing short of epic.

Good luck all involved in this new endeavor.

And, to Cathy:  we, in your home town, continue to be SO proud of you!

Keep up the amazing work!

Annie finished a Half Marathon yesterday in Seattle.

This accomplishment is special because she has dealt with lung issues for the past few years, some of which can be attributed to Covid.

A neat achievement, Annie.

Mom and Dad Love are proud of you.

My own personal joy is aroused every time I go outside and see my yard looking pretty squeaky clean for the winter.

After getting the green light from the doctor last week, I resumed the yard work and finished up on Friday.

Spring yard cleaning will be much easier with the leaves gone.

On Saturday afternoon, I officially started "boot camp" over at former Marine Sgt. Roxane Conrad's stable.

Roxane runs a tight ship at her beautiful facility, so when the new recruits come in with their horses, there's some basic training involved.

Where to put the poop,
where to find the tools used to remove the poop,
where to park the car, which light switches work in the barn and,
most importantly, the general expectations of "cleaning up after yourself."

I don't mind this a bit because I like to have my place looking neat and tidy also.

Roxane has been very patient about all my questions, especially cuz asking is the only way I'm going to learn.

I love this new dimension in my life, where I get to go socialize as well as give my horses some TLC and grooming.

Yesterday I met Dana, who was in the outdoor arena working with her horse Thor.

On Saturday, CB got the nod as the first of my three horses to go into the stable for a grooming session. He seemed to enjoy every minute, as did I.

I'll probably work with one horse a day and keep the cycle going.

In the next few weeks, as they get more used to the place, and if I pass basic training, I'll saddle one of them up and go for a ride.

For now, it's already a fun and satisfying way to spend time.

Over the weekend, I stocked up on ingredients for cookie baking, which will probably start today or tomorrow.

The gift tag and Scotch tape supply also received a boost.

Lots of details involved in the season and the goal is to stay on top of them.

Happy Monday.
