Digging Out and Watching

It's a tough life for a little guy with short legs when the snow gets deep.

Add blindness to the mix, and you can imagine how life has suddenly changed for Little Foster.

His world has become a strange place, where finding his usual relief spots is all but impossible.

We're hoping he can adjust fairly quickly because sniffing around for just the right spot has suddenly become a major challenge.

Bill and I spent most of the day digging out and preparing areas where Foster can go without sinking into the snow.

Shovels, the snow blower and the tractor with its plow all saw some action yesterday, as what was supposed to be just a couple of inches ended up piling up to about eight inches of snow.

In between snow moving, we spent a good portion of the day watching sports events on TV, including college basketball and football.

There was quite a menu of great games from morning until the last major event:  the ZAGS vs. the USC Trojans.

That game turned out to be a "grand" finale for the day as the ZAGS played great basketball no matter how much the commentators wanted USC to get its act together.

Wishful thinking played a part toward the end as they decided that maybe when Bronny James (LaBron's son) gets to start playing, things will be different for USC.

In the meantime, the ZAGS did what the ZAGS usually do as they won easily.

Speaking of easy, Willie's team had another game yesterday at East Valley.

They did okay with a convincing win of 80-14 with the bench playing most of the second half.

The Bulldogs are now 3-0.

Nonetheless, in the next few days,  comes a triple challenge:  Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls and Lake City, all formidable foes.

Congratulations, Bulldogs, and good luck in the next few games.

As if we haven't viewed enough basketball this weekend, Bill and I are traveling to Spokane today to watch the Lady ZAGS take on third-ranked Stanford.

Last time I attended a Lady ZAGS-Stanford game, the ZAGS won, so hoping for similar results today.

On Friday night, I watched my first game in person at Bulldog Gym---without glasses.

It was wonderful, just as it was when I walked into Yoke's the for first time after having both cataracts removed. I could make out people's faces clear across the store.

My visual world has changed for the better and I'm looking forward to watching the game at the Kennel today without glasses.

The only complaint I have about the two cataract surgeries is that pieces of adhesive from the tape that held the eye guards in place on at night still show up on my face.

Almost four weeks later, this morning, I found and rubbed off another little sticky black splotch from my cheek bone.

Not a fun thought, imagining what other eyes must have been thinking if they saw the black lines and smudges on my face.  With luck, they may have assumed that THEIR eyes were fooling them.

That's enough babble on this December day.

Happy Sunday.
