Little Foster had a surprise when he stepped over the threshold to the outdoor world this morning.
When you're blind and you can't see the snow, that first cold touch with your paw can wake you up for sure.
He didn't show too much concern after the initial shock, but he did spend more time than usual sniffing out his No. 2 relief station.
After all, the snow covered up a lot of the smell.
Winter has officially begun, even though the calendar says we have to wait three weeks.
Mother Nature pays no heed to calendars. When she's ready to drop a dump, she does, regardless of the date.
She was nice enough this year to give us all a break, and, unlike last year, we were ready for the first snow day.
The yard is clean, leaves are gone, and, this year, the horses are enjoying their long winter naps somewhere else but in the neighborhood.
I actually enjoyed this morning's first coating of snow. There was enough to make it pretty but not enough yet to interfere with walking.
They say we have more to come, but it sounds like the "pretty" will end when the rain begins and hangs around for five or six days.
For now, we won't be complaining, 'cept for maybe all the toweling of wet dogs.
Willie and Debbie gave us this tree 22 years ago during their wedding festivities when it was a baby Colorado spruce.
The tree is pretty hardy considering the fact that it grew for a while at the Great Northern place and then had to be transplanted here in Selle.
It's done well over the years, and this morning looked especially pretty with its coating of new snow.
Below: I visited the horses yesterday. It makes me happy when at least two of them see me, nicker and make their way to the gate to greet me.
Lily prefers to have me come to her, and then she doesn't seem to mind some personal TLC.
Lefty and CB are always happy for some loving with people or each other.
Just for fun this morning and for all the Bigfoot believers.
A fun story about a Sasquatch gathering.
Enjoy.
Happy Friday.
Wishing everyone a happy and safe introduction to winter.
