A Really Good Reuben, Etc.

On the menu, it's called "Our Signature Reuben."

My tastebuds call it the "Ultimate Signature Reuben."

What a sandwich, my friend Karen serves at Di Luna's Restaurant on Cedar Street in Sandpoint!

My friend Chris also ordered a Reuben, saying that she has been searching for the best Reuben sandwich.

Then, taking her first bite, she said her search had ended.

We both agreed that every single bite was an enjoyable delight. I ordered a full sandwich, telling the server at the time that I'd take one half home to Bill.

That was NOT easy.

After taking the last bite of that first half, I had to practically sit on my hand to keep from biting into the second half.

Later, the server told me I had a stronger will than she because she would have eaten the whole thing.

BTW:  later Bill agreed with Chris and my assessment.

Chris and I met a mutual friend Becky at the restaurant---same place that catered our son's wedding almost 23 years ago.

It turned out to be a good ol' Sandpoint experience as only one table had people we didn't know. One of the servers, Amy, who's been at DiLuna's forever, was one of my students.

I knew Amy knew another student Jim and asked if he was in town.  He sure was, and Amy told me he'd be arriving at the restaurant at 1.

Twas another great friends' reunion, as it always is with Jim Imholte who lives in Phoenix but spends a lot of time in Sandpoint at his condo, up at Schweitzer or the local favorites, including a men's coffee klatch at Tango Restaurant.

He told me he's also a regular at DiLuna's whenever he's in Sandpoint.

BTW:  please note in the website that the restaurant, known for its wonderful breakfast menu, is open Friday through Monday.

We enjoyed great food, phenomenal visiting and healthy January laughs with each other, the staff and other clientele.

The three of us left the restaurant recharged and anxious to set another date for another visit.

LOVED that Reuben.

Chris Moon, Jim Imholte, Marianne Love and Becky Reynolds:  a fun time was had by all.

Cindy Wooden and Pope Francis

Speaking of fun times, our Cindy Wooden recently had a great time during her organization's audience with Pope Francis.

Cindy, a Sandpoint High grad and a journalist for Catholic News Service, has worked at the Vatican Bureau since 1989 and has traveled the world reporting on Papal visits.

She presently serves as Bureau Chief at the Vatican.

We're always proud and thrilled to claim Cindy as one of Sandpoint's own.

from Cindy:

The pope had an audience for the Vatican journalists' association; I'm the vice president now after serving 7 years as president.

There were about 150 newspaper and magazine reporters, radio and TV correspondents.

In other news, there's really not much news.  It's pretty sloppy out there, but very pleasant temperature-wise.

Huge chunks of snow are still rumbling off from roofs, and that is a good thing.

We'll take the slop because it means much less snow.

And, with some fairly warm winter temperatures ahead, the outside world should become more enjoyable.

One nice bit of news came early this morning when the Oscar nominations were announced.

And, it looks like the prediction in Lily Gladstone's Mount Lake Terrace High School yearbook is coming closer to fruition.

For her role in "Killers of the Flower Moon, she was listed for Best Actress in today's Oscar nominations.

Hope she wins.

Happy Tuesday.
