MLK Thoughts

“Be a bush if you can’t be a tree. If you can’t be a highway, just be a trail. If you can’t be a sun, be a star. For it isn’t by size that you win or fail. Be the best of whatever you are.”

Martin Luther King Jr.

May I stress the need for courageous, intelligent and dedicated leadership.  Leaders of sound integrity.  Leaders not in love with publicity but in love with justice.  Leaders not in love with money but in love with humanity.  Leaders who can subject their particular egos to the greatness of the cause.

Martin Luther King Jr.

“Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.

Martin Luther King Jr.

“People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don’t know each other; they don’t know each other because they have not communicated with each other.”

 Martin Luther King Jr.

“All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”

Martin Luther King Jr.

“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.”

Martin Luther King Jr.

“We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.”

Martin Luther King Jr.

“Hate is too great a burden to bear. I have decided to love.”

Martin Luther King Jr.

💛💚💜

I love a holiday which makes me stop and think about the world around me and how I'm contributing as one of its habitants.

Scanning through Martin Luther King Jr.'s  famous thoughts tells me that we all have a lot more we can do to make the world a better place.

His famous sayings tend to reinforce some of those New Year's resolutions we think we need to adopt or the kindness and generosity of the Christmas season.

While poring through the offerings, I'll often find a quote and think---now there's something we could all work on.

And, then I'll read another, and say to myself, "You're sure not doing well with  that one."

I found a few of King's sayings this morning that I know would require a lot of biting of my tongue or Goliath-like resolve to carry through on what he suggests we do as we go about living our lives.

Overall, it's a great exercise to go through the list each year, take stock and, at least, make an effort to try harder to adhere to the wisdom found in the words King put together during his lifetime.

If we read the sayings of Martin Luther King, Jr., we see a resounding message:  we can all do better

Meanwhile, it was an exquisitely beautiful and somewhat nostalgic day around Sandpoint yesterday.  Enjoy the photos.
