It's a winter wonderland out there, and the sky is blue.
We have survived and kept ahead of the first major snow dump of 2024.
At least, it did not mount up to two feet, but there was plenty to go around.
After shoveling a few pathways, Bill and I teamed up for two rounds of clean-up yesterday, and the timing for the second seemed to be just right.
This morning's only work involved his moving the cars and plowing the parking area.
I also had some shoveling to do out in the lane where I had to lift the plow on the second go round.
Too much snow had accumulated between the blade and the rear end tractor so I had to dump it in the lane so the tractor could move on.
In between plowings, we dried off, nibbled on lunch, warmed up and watched a movie on Netflix.
I was told a few years ago by a friend about how the book The Glass Castle reminded her of a book I had just read Educated.
So, when I saw that The Glass Castle was on Netflix, we watched it. And, yes, it did have similarities to Educated, which is also a true story about a dysfunctional family.
The movie was excellent: great acting, especially by Woodie Harrelson, the father. The narrative involved a compelling, disturbing and, at times, upbeat story about enduring family love, even in the worst of situations.
When the movie ended, out we went again. This time I wore snow pants cuz my jeans were pretty wet by the time I had finished plowing in Round 1. Wet clothes translate into a cold body and a need to wrap up in a blanket.
The extra layer of pants didn't help much the second time because the snow seemed more intense as I plowed and Bill ran the snow blower.
Twas a definite weather event, which precipitated work for pretty much everyone in the area.
Happily, it has passed, and today we move on, enjoying the beauty the storm left behind and preparing for the next phase of wet weather.
It will be fun to get outside and enjoy taking some pictures before the rain washes the beauty away.
Also, at the end of the day, the ZAGS play. It's been a week since their one-point loss at Santa Clara. Tonight they take on Pepperdine, again on the road.
According to the Spokesman-Review, the game is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST. It will be broadcast on KHQ-ROOT.
Hopefully, the week gap in between games has been of help in the team tune up.
GO, ZAGS!

Thursday Throwbacks . . . .
This little one has grown up to become a hard-working star. Brecken, now a ninth grader, plays on Willie's Sandpoint High girls varsity team.
Her body takes a pounding in nearly every game, but she gets the job done, scoring points, grabbing rebounds and stealing the ball.
It's neat to watch the little ones grow up and find their niche. Brecken is very good at basketball.
Bob and Wanda, from the old neighborhood at a Bulldogs basketball game a while back.
The late Laura Carothers standing on the deck of her home at Mirror Lake in Sagle, Idaho. The structure was used in the filming of Dante's Peak.
from a Bob Gunter historical piece in the Bonner County Daily Bee:
In 1996, Universal Studios filmed a portion of the movie Dante’s Peak
on Laura’s land at Mirror Lake. In the movie, the co-star of the movie,
Pierce Brosnan, says, “We are up at the cabin on Mirror Lake.”
It is
that log cabin, built by Universal Studios, that is Laura’s home today.
The studio built the cabin as a shell, but her son Andrew and his wife
Cathy, finished the log cabin that became Laura’s home.
Some years
later, Joey Travolta, brother of John Travolta, directed a movie for HBO
(Home Box Office) about a flying turtle, called Mel, which starred
Ernest Borgnine.
The same cabin was used as their set. Although she
lives a life far from that of a movie star, she has rubbed elbows with
many of them.
My first set of snow shoes, a Christmas present which Bill purchased from Bob Aavedal at the Alpine Ski and Boat Shop.
The snow shoes got plenty of wear, and, later, Bill gave me another pair. I haven't been snow shoeing for a while because of knee problems, but I might give it a try today in a small scale around the yard.
Anyone who's ever spent any time at Schweitzer knows this guy: John Pucci, legendary ski patrolman at Schweitzer and perennial groomsman at weddings.
Part of today's plan includes ordering some seeds. It's a long time before gardening, but it's nice to have the supplies on hand for planting pots and potting soil.
We kinda missed it because I have always used it for a supplementary refrigerator in the winter time.
Bill has a Christmas gift certificate for a new grill, so once winter has passed and the weather warms up, he'll go do some shopping.
