Couch Potato Season

I'm planning to turn into a couch potato, at least for today.

It's a season's thing:  new season of "Yellowstone," and second game of the season for both the Gonzaga women and the Gonzaga men.

With women playing Stanford at noon and men playing Arizona State at 2 p.m., there's a guaranteed four hours on the couch.

Later, there's "60 Minutes," and after that, "Yellowstone."

So, for me a guaranteed minimum of six hours in front of the television.

This couch potato day will most likely be an anomaly.  I don't normally spend THAT much time sitting and watching TV, but today's material should be riveting, to say the least.

So, no apologies, just a determination to get the other stuff done before the first tip-off at noon.

Speaking of getting things done, yesterday Bill finished the section of board fence that needed new posts and several new boards.

I'll have a painting job in the spring.

He did point out one other problem that needs to be fixed.  The metal gate swings outward toward the yard rather than inward toward the barnyard.

When a trio of horses gathers near the gate, pushing their way into line, it's much safer for the gate to swing inward.

So, Bill will take the gate off its hinges and rectify the problem.

I spent a little time with my horses yesterday.  With brand-new sharpened clipper blades, I was able to clip Lefty's bridle path with ease.

And, there was visiting to be done at Roxane's, with the winter boarders back in the stable.

We are entering another transitional period with less and less yard work opening up more time to go over to the stable for horsing around and visiting.

Last night Bill and I ate out again.  This time we attended the Inland Forest Management year end party, which involves great food (Ivano's catering), drinks and more visiting.

Plus, Mike, the former owner, is very generous with gifts and praise for the employees and their families.

Always a fun time.

We have a foggy and extremely quiet morning today.

I was noticing, while walking with
Bridie around the field, how few bird sounds we're hearing on these November days.

There's definitely a sense of hibernation time in the air, and as I typed this sentence, I yawned.

This morning I'll probably drive to Co-Op Country Store to pick up some sunflower seeds for the feeders, in hopes of attracting some winter birds.

And, I'll grab a bag of potting soil to use while pulling and transplanting several geraniums, which will stay inside for the winter.

By the time, those jobs are finished, the couch will be calling, and I won't mind keeping it happy today.

Happy Sunday.

Gonzaga women at Stanford, 12 noon on ESPN2

Gonzaga men host Arizona at McCarthey Athletic Complex at 2 p.m. PST on ESPN.

GO, ZAGS!!
