Saturday Slight

Got Ice!

I stopped by The Pond in Ponderay yesterday.

The ice rink, presented by STCU, opened recently, and if yesterday's scene was typical, the place is going to be a popular venue.

Lots of smiles and wonder as families came and prepared to take the ice.

Public skating slots are scheduled.  After each slot, the ice gets some maintenance, and the next skating slot begins.

There's a rink monitor and there are all those inanimate assistants that make skating much easier for beginners.

Where were the polar bear helpers with the handles when I was trying to learn to skate?  I never progressed much--always attributed my pathetic efforts to weak ankles.

Bill knows how to skate, as do both of our kids. Annie was actually pretty good.  She might even have to try the rink when she's home for Christmas.

A basketball family showed up while I was there.  Mom and Dad Driggs help Willie with the girls basketball team.  Two of the daughters also play on the varsity.

They were set to use their athletic skills on ice rather than maple.

I also saw one of my drill team members from the early '70s, watching her grandsons skate.

What I witnessed that impressed me most were all the happy faces, both young and old, who came to enjoy a couple of hours of good ol' Norman Rockwell fun.

I noticed that they're putting the finishing touches on the rink, which promises to be a popular gathering place.  BTW:  it looks small from the street, but up close and personal, there's plenty of room for everyone.

The link below provides pretty much all the information you'd need to know about the multi-purpose rink as well as public skating times and purchasing tickets.

What a nice addition to the community!

Ponderay rocks!

Be the person your dog thinks you are.

I saw the above on a sign in a hallway yesterday and thought it was spot on and definitely worth sharing.

Hopefully, your dog thinks you are an all-around good person.
